DJI Neo Drone

From what I have found, there is not much around here. I found one second-hand on eBay for AU400, whereas the Neo is AU$300 new, and the cheapest price from a unknown retailer for the X1 is AU$535 and from a mainstream retailer, AU$639.

Even Aliexpress pricing is up there with the street prices locally.

If I get one, I would like it for a camping trip I have coming up in a couple of weeks, making it tight timewise. Mind you, I was not planning on having one until this thread, so ...

I just checked the HoverAir website, and it blow me down; they have the X1 for AU389 and the combo for AU439.

Have to admit that the higher speed ability of the HoverAir is more attractive to me over the DJI and the cost isn't that bad over the $1k average price of the drones I looked into a few years ago? Still going to hold off for awhile I guess as I still can't justify having one for the amount of use I would potentially get out of it. Maybe someone in my area will get one and rent it out by the day as that would give me more than enough time to get the footage I can see being useful to me?

Back to the Neo, I think. My special deal at the HoverAir "Australian" website was it turns out to be priced in US$, so it was AU$600 plus for the X1. I can get the Neo + second battery for AU$328 with a $30 off coupon.

The eBay seller for HoverAir X1, "new, just taken out the package," is asking $500 plus postage, which is about 2.5 times the actual cost. I do not react well to people trying to rip me off. Does encourage trust.

BTW what is the speed difference between the two?

How is it going for you, Chargeride?

I have an entry level drone for a few years now and though it was interesting to play with for one summer it quickly became boring to me.
Not being interested in social media in any way, nobody wants to watch more than a minute of drone video... including myself.

Drone shots five seconds max unless its something very interesting.

Exactly.
Want to see what you look like riding... Look at the guy riding next to you 🤣

Want to see what you wish you look like riding or would be scared to? Go to Instagram. Or wait for Chargerides footage for his 5sec of fame.

Well like I said... No interest in social media.
Some impressive, but I never seek them out. If something happens to cross my path like a post here, then maybe. But most do it with too much fill in that quickly has me exiting anyway. .

OK, taken it out, far too windy and blustery, but it coped very well, the top of the first dune climb was so gusty it unbalanced me on the bike, but the Neo coped.
OK it crashed three times to the floor, but I saw two of them and it had been flipped into a tumble by the wind, just powered off and dropped.
This is medium distance and height follow, super reliable lock, my computer wont edit the 4K files so this is downsized to 1080 and output at 2.7K.
Looks great, copes with contrast very well.
I only got 8 mins flight time but the poor thing was battling the wind the entire time.
It just has to have collision avoidance AI built in, you can see it later in the vid stopping and moving around branches.
OK Im purposely steering wide to give it a chance and it seems to follow your path.
Overall for 170 quid this level of quality is incredible, no damage, but it was landing on sand.
The last shot I forgot to change down and ran out of oomph.

I wonder if it would follow me into a dark tunnel, illuminated only by my bike headlight?

The video quality is pretty impressive as well as how it followed you in the trees which is much like where I would like to spend 8 minutes with one to share with friends and family, get of few overhead shots of our place, and that would be about it. Thanks for sharing!

Looks great. Thanks for sharing. For what I want to do it will do the trick.

Just one question, did you use the app whilst riding?
