I just noticed the rust maybe because my bike just dried out the first time in days

Got any clearer pictures of the rust? Traditionally, there is no seal between the crank arm and the spindle interface of the drive unit.
I put the lube Around it because its been squeaking like crazy. but the rust has ran down below the crank spindle the whole spindle was rusty with rust running down the motor housing. the problem was it has been wet for a bunch of days so I did not notice it till my bike dried out. I had noticed some kind of spinup sound for the last couple weeks when I pause and start peddling again. but was thinking it was just when I started using using custom modes again. I had the headset do the same thing so as soon as I saw it I knew the bearing was rusting. I took it to my local trek shop yesterday and the mechanic is going to talk to his bosch rep.
so there is no way to really repalce the bearing without it getting rebuilt? Plus if the seal failed could there be water in the motor? I ride in the rain sometimes twice a day this year we had a lot of rain but then its been dry for awhile.

A common thing around here this time of year. Plenty of road salt and water makes for lots of rust.

no road salt here and this is the 3rd year of rain riding. but this is not a little rust and the bearting was dry as a boan and squeaking as it is so dry.

There is a bearing replacement kit for that drive unit that replaces the drive side bearing. Riding in the rain is not an issue. All drive units rate at IP54.

What area of the country are you in?

portland Oregon. sometimes my bike does not dry out for days. thats why I didn't to notice the rust for so long till we had two sunny days and it fully dried out. so does the motor need rebuilt?

With the vision of the picture and reading your symptoms, I cannot speak to whether your DU needs service. I would refer to the local dealer in the area for service. The dealer has further resources with Bosch if further action or service is needed.

We have riders all over the country riding in all types of elements (couriers in NYC, riders at the beach) and the DU's should protect against elements like constant rain. I have 3,200 miles on an Active Line Plus DU that has been trashed in the rain and elements and is smooth and is smooth as new.

Pressure washing is the one area we see water ingress on a regular basis.

I have a local trek shop and he is looking into it. no pressure washing ever but man the rain so much rain. I have 14,000 miles on the bike in 2.5 years.

And then treat it with some ACF50 anti-corrosion formula. Once or twice a year does the trick nicely, and it plays well with electronics. I use it on my motorcycles as well.

Yes I used it on on my connection and on the bearings after I found them rusted.

I think if you keep up the grease that comes with that kit i linked, it might be better/more compatible with any other chemicals Bosch use (the ACF50 may get inside and dissolve existing greases).
I mean, just the title explains a lot (Long-life tacky grease)

Possibly in-conjunction with this:

I posted on the bulls forum on Facebook and a bulls rep contacted me after seeing how many miles I put on my bike in two years 12,000 he did a internet on how riding helped my heath problems and overcame them somewhat. He even sent me a shirt socks and a beanie. When I found the rust coming out of the bottom bracket on my bosch motor I sent a pic and he got my info and contacted the shop about getting it taken care of. I just got a call from someone from bulls about the repairs. But I think it is taken care of through my much closer trek dealer.
so I sent my receipt to both and I think my trek mechanic has it taken care of. I will take to him Sunday. but I think every couple of years I may have the seals replaced because I ride in the rain so much.

I just got a notice from trek I just got a new motor and its installed. great news. though now I have two bikes that are close to the same. the only real difference for the most part is my bulls has 1.5" tires.

Great opportunity to hear how the compare 😁
the trek I find I am a little slower on or I cant put out as many watts. not sure why maybe its I am just used to the bulls. it feels like I am working the same as I do on the bulls but my watts are down. I replaced the 11-42 cluster to the same 11-32 on the bulls and that helped. maybe part o it is the trek has more torque so it may make a difference that way too. I know the bigger tires slow me down. but with them I don't need the suspension seat post and air fork. hard to tell how many more miles I get on the bigger battery as I don't cruise as fast on the trek and that makes a big difference on the mileage I get. today my commute while feeling good maybe better then usual was about the same as my average commute on the bulls.
here is the power curve I have for the two bikes. today the trek was too much and I rode on mode one with a little mode 2. mostly I am in 2. I ned a big boost on the low end to help accelerate those fat tires. oncce I did that I can get upto speed easier and actually I put more watts out.
