Would love to have one but i have one question, can i sit back, hit the throttle and let the motor do the work while my feet are on the peddles or do they only assist when peddling. does the mid drive have a anti reverse bearing like a fishing reel or pawls like the rear gears on a 21 speed.
Know that sounds stupid but i can't find an answer to this, i don't want the peddles spinning when i turn it up.
If a mid drive is just assist it's not my next purchase.

When mid-drive has a throttle, this is exactly how it works - you hit the throttle, sit back and let the motor do the job. Though very few brands of mid-drives have a throttle.

Depends on manufacturer. I’m probably wrong, but I thought Bafang is the only one with a throttle and yes it has a freewheel chainring. The European designs are pedal assist only.

My Raleigh bike has a throttle, Curie drive or tranz x motor, and I love it. I have the retroglide style beach cruiser but they have a few different models with throttle capability.

For DIY there is also Stockmonkey kit that comes with throttle, though it's not a usual type of mid drive. The motor drives crankset through short piece of chain. Yes, freewheel, of course.
