Cheapest OK?

So, I bought an older mountain bike of decent quality with an old Bionx kit installed, but have given up on replacing the battery because of proprietary firmware. So at Walmart and Amazon there is a AW conversion kit 48 volt, 1000 watt for $250. Add a battery for $289, and I'm pretty ready to go. It seems to be the main one available from these places. Any criticism or recommendations of alternatives?

A possible alternative might be to take apart the Bionx motor hub and remove the internal controller, rewiring it to use an external controller like Grin Tech's Phaserunner and any battery, as in this video, you would lose the Bionx pedal torque sensor so if you wanted to keep using one you could fit a bottom bracket torque sensor

Thanks for this very informative video. I'm going to buy a replacement system, but will save the BionX motor for possible rebuild for another bike.
