the third gen is fine with the smart phone hub I will be getting one as soon as my dealer gets one. if the bike has a older motor it may not be a great buy.

Because the hub clamps down on the iphone at the side button, it will indadvertently press the side button (locking the phone) during rides with jarring bumps. Does anyone know a method to stop this as it then locks me out from seeing the Cobi App.

Hello, I just slide my iPhone a bit to the right, so that the power button is not clamped by the hub. i know that sounds simple and perhaps a bit flippant, but that is what I have done.

Has anyone actually done an upgrade from Purion or Intuvia to the new Smartphone Hub? My wife has a Purion controller and I have Intuvia. Is there a difference between the two?

you still cant buy the smartphone hub without being on a bike. my dealer keeps a eye on them.

We just had the upgrade kit installed by the local Dealer where we bought our Trek Verve +2 bikes. The kit cost us $350.00 (we are in Canada) and the dealer did not seem to be very knowledgeable about working on the Bosch system so I sent him a video that a shop in England posted and it stated the time to remove then install the motor was 25 minutes for each procedure, add on another 10 or 15 minutes to remove the Purion Controller and install the hub and away you go! I took the bike in about 2:20 minuted before the shop closed, when I came back near closing time all I saw was a bunch of parts on the floor and a confused guy looking a little bewildered. I left the 2 week old bike behind letting them know I was not too impressed and did not intend to pay for the time it is taking their guy to learn how to work on the Bosch system. I got a call later the next morning to pickup the bike. It seemed to be ok except for the lost piece of shielding on the headlight wires and the greasy fingerprints all over the bike. OH, we agreed on the bill being for 45 minuted shop time.
Now into the Hub itself, there are YouTube videos to show you what it does but I must say that they must all be using iPhones. Neither of our android phones fit in the hub bracket without activating the phones buttons. The only way around this is to have a third of the phone sticking out of the right side of the bracket which seems very perilous. The connectivity with the Cobi app is a little hit and miss, sometimes it remembers your phone and all the information you put in your profile, other times it does not. I am hoping that the software will continue to updated and that Bosch will come out with a case so that the android phones fit in the hub bracket as they did for the iPhone.
Until then, we have not been able to ride with the phone mounted on the hub. I have ordered a 3rd party universal handle bar mount to try and mount the phone beside the hub to see how that will work.
Right now I am pretty disappointed to have almost $500.00 tax in tied up in this system

Ya even when they know now to do it problems can happen. They have to tear my bike apart to get the cable through and then it would not work. They found a broken wire in the motor. But I was going to get it back that day but a week later but they gave me a loaner.

I'll try to find a link to the video, dropping the motor, especially on a new bike is a pretty straight forward procedure especially since these shops are all supposed to be factory trained by Bosch. I think many of even most of thses shops are very underskilled when it comes to dealing with E bikes.

Any authorized dealer that is selling bike equipped with the Bosch motor should be able to do this procedure, if not, why are they authorized to sell and work on them?

I got the smartphone hub last weekend and retrofitted it myself. It wasn´t too bad, but there were some parts that was quite stuck after two years of wear and tear in the nordics including winter biking that took the most time.
The bike I got is a Focus Aventura 2 pro bought in 2018 with the cx gen2 and a Intuvia display. The motor had the 1.8.0.0 firmware on it, but the smartphone hub said it required a newer firmware. Luckily it was just to press a button to dismiss the error message and it worked. I biked it to the dealer and they upgraded it to 1.8.6.0 and it worked without a problem, although after dismissing the error message it before the upgrade it worked just as well.
I am using an iPhone X without a case and it seems to be really well fixed in the universal mount. It does not press any of the phone buttons either.
But there are a few things I do miss from the Intuvia. Total distance in the bike mode is something I was really used to, it is a bit too cumbersome to go in the bike settings in cobi.bike to look at the total distance. The other two metrics that are totally missing is total average speeed and max speed.
When looking at some of the data you are getting from kiox and nyon I would also like to get that information in cobi.bike, especially the trip information with all the stats. It is a bit annoying to have to check strava, apple health or komoot for some of the trip information. But you do miss the amount of power the bike assisted me with, how much power I put in, the different assistant modes that were in use and so on.
The maps are not good at all, I find it a lot more difficult to understand than Google Maps turn by turn, it is missing a lot of bike paths and it is extremely eager to get me biking on pavements. It usually says to turn almost every meter when I´m biking on the road, so it is impossible to follow the turn by turn information. It is a bit easier when I have the full map view open.
And at last I would like it to be optional to set a bike trip as a training session. Most of my mike rides are short commutes, and I see no need of putting a 2-3 km bike ride in strava or apple health.
All in all the system works quite well, and I do like the basic display on the mount, so that I do not need to bring with me a specific bike display, or connect the phone every time I am using the bike. If cobi.bike are able to include some of the features in kiox and nyon it would be an even better solution.

I wish it worked for me. It’s been so terrible for me. I went on a two hour ride and the hub shows it on the app but doesn’t send it to Strava. Having no start and stop button for the app is a usability nightmare. Also the UI in general is a mess IMO. It looks and feels like something an engineer designed on their own without and adequate UX and Design team. I mean wow! So far I absolutely HATE the Smartphone Hub. One of the reasons I went with a Bosch system Bike is because I thought the displays looked nice in the videos.

My Trek Allant 9.9S came with the smart phone hub. I have Bosch Nyon on all my bikes and wanted to keep it that way. I do not like using a phone for navigation and bike display...too many tales of screws coming loose and phones flying off of bikes. I prefer a dedicated and integrated device that is well secured to the bike and wired into the system getting its power from the bike battery not depleting my phone battery. The old Nyon uses the same mount and harness as the Intuvia so I had the intuvia mount installed on the Allant and sold the Smartphone hub parts. No regrets. It receives heart rate info continually from a Polar HR strap. It records all ride data and automatically uploads it to the Bosch cloud when I get home. Navigation is simple and easy. Custom ride and fitness screens allow me to see the info that in most important to me and custom ride modes let me tweak four levels of assist to my own needs. No better cycle computer/display IMO. Eager to learn about the new Nyon.

I'm glad I decided to not get the smarthub installed on my Lefty 3. I think I'll wait until the Spring and get the new Nyon installed instead.
