bike seems dead

Usually the case with digital equipment, but analog equipment would give very bad readings since they are (typically) more sensitive.
And always have an adjustment screw. It needs to be calibrated from two separate known sources.

I had a customer who saw loose screws so she tightened them both all the way. They were the shift limit screws.

Hey, I just came up with something while mounting a motor into a mid-drive's housing. I had to get a screw way down where I could not get a finger, so I slid the screw into shrink tube and then inserted the driver.

Problem could be the volt meter since the charger and battery are reading similar voltage.

Yeah, OK,
I remember bending the FuK outta our pointers on our Multimeters at school when we plugged them in wrong.

We wrecked a lot of Multimeters setting them to "Amps" then checking "Voltage"

The teacher was Pissed. 😂

I still prefer bending a needle to missing a decimal point,..

I've had my batteries go dead on Many Multimeters before, But they Don't Start giving Erroneous Results when they die !!

The screen starts to go dim or flash, or it shuts off.

They NEVER Gave inaccurate or Erroneous readings when the battery was dying.
They just stopped working.
You must have been using industrial quality Flukes or Hewlett Packards from the old days, Try a Harbor Freight meter, or a Craftsman. When their 9 volts go low, you get incorrect high DC readings,

No, just regular digital multimeters in the 80's from Radio Shack.
They had analog meters too that had to be adjusted.

We all knew about Fluke but Fluck That@!
Even our teacher couldn't afford one.
(Maybe he just knew better than to bring it to class. 😆)

The analog meters were only in electronics class from 1980-1982
We adjusted them every time we used them.
You touch the probes together then turn the dial until it reads Zero Ohms.

The Voltmeter and Ahmeter ranges didn't require a battery to operate properly, just a set of resistors and a couple shunts

My Canadian Tire digital Multimeter has been in the garage since I made my 36V battery pack in Sept 2022,..
The garage can be -20°C or +40°C in the summer.

I cut the plug off a cord and stuffed the probes of the Multimeter into the wires to plug it into the socket keep an eye on the battery voltage.

The battery in the Multimeter did actually die on me, but the symptoms were obvious and it didn't lose accuracy.
It just didn't work.

I remember opening it up and finding a battery that I had never seen before,..

Some smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors use them too.

All my other digital multimeters have a low battery indicator or the screen gets dim or they won't turn on when the battery dies.

haven't replaced the meters batt yet but did measure the output of the charger with nothing connected and its 46.5v. will get new batt in morning

Is there any kind of label or information printed on your charger (or controller or anywhere else)?
Can you post a picture?

My other Canadian Tire Multimeter has a battery symbol that turns on when it's time to replace the battery,..

Try a Harbor Freight meter, or a Craftsman.

We used to have Craftsman until Sears went under.
I've still got a bunch of Craftsman tools.

I've never heard of that ?
All the meters I've ever had were $20-$50.

You don't need to pay Fluke prices to get a Multimeter that doesn't lie to you.

this is definitely very interesting ...thanks everyone. i'll get new 9v batt and WRITE DOWN [this time] each reading i get then post it

i believe bike worked ok after the batt rebuild, unfortunately i cant check

if god had meant bikes to have batteries he wouldn't have given us quit such strong legs
