Bang for buck recomendations

The bike I'm on now is 65-68lbs or so, and for my purposes, I don't notice the weight. That might change if I were lugging it up steps or something, or using it in tight quarters on a technical climb/decent. The question would be then, how often do I plan on being in those situations? Do I want to buy a house with a pool in an area where the season for using the pool is only a month long?

Establishing some priorities in order I believe. Including those regarding service requirements it sounds like.
You are right on cue with what I was thinking. I have ridden a 56lbs ebike and it wasn't exactly a dancing sprite (that could improve as I become more in tune with it though) but also got me thinking if 20lbs more would be that drastic of a difference.

Agreed. You should probably stick with your LBS if you have limited bike repair skills. I personally like getting a deal and have found the internet to be very helpful in assisting in fixing the basics...
Have been mtb riding 30yrs and do all maintenance and repairs and have automotive skills so not super concerned.

Btw the worst car I ever owned required less maintenance than a mountain bike. :)

I'm a noob with no bike yet but it's sitting on the dock in China and I should have it in about six weeks. I determined quickly in my research that I did not want a small restricted Eurobike motor. I dropped Luna from my possibilities shortly into my thoughts as they are unresponsive and seem to be presently out to lunch. I keyed in on Biktrix and they are indeed a very good company. Then I ran across Frey. If you can stand dealing with a CCP run outfit like Alibaba you can get a VERY good bike but you have to sit on your hands waiting for a few months to get one. I bought a rebadged Frey AM 1000 from Bolton Ebikes. Yes I paid a premium but it was worth it. I am a long way from getting the sort of support a local bike shop can provide but I will have the bike I want and if it breaks I will just buy new parts and do the repair myself. Even motors can be swapped out without too much trouble. In all my deliberations I still can't come up with anything better than either Biktrix or Frey for my needs. And I like Bolton and Kyle Chittok.
Good points but lead time would drive me nuts (short trip) probably. I didn't see anything on any delay with the Biktrix I'm interested in though?!

The full suspension, tubeless ready wheels or a dropper post are not free. Same with a proper e-MTB optimised motor (not a speed demon but a terrific climber). Classy drivetrain, brakes... What can I say?

The hardtail e-MTBs come cheaper.
It's been over 20 years since I rode a hardtail mtb and I have considered that but would be giving up some ground control and at the higher speed I'm looking for that could turn out not too good.

Thought I found a good compromise all the way around. They are expecting it to be in stock this coming spring. Less than $3k

2 things would be a deal breaker for me on that bike. The newer 600's may not be tuneable without special software not available to the public. Something about the interface supplied currently, that can be tuned, vs. a new interface that can't.

And 2nd, if it has steel gears, it's pretty noisy. There are plastic available, but they would be extra cost, and then there's the install.

The 600 has come up in the Frey bike forum if I remember right. You might look into more info regarding that motor there.

...and the integrated battery replacement is no where to be found.

Hard enough finding a bike but harder finding it in stock.

I spoke with M2S about their shipping date couple of weeks ago. They were expecting a shipment in the next few days.

I just clicked on the only size and color they have left 42/Matt Black and it is 2899 plus tax and free ship. It mentions nothing about delayed shipping. Seems like a great deal and I love the look...

Not sure if that Motobecane has a throttle.

I dont think it does but for 3k it looks like great deal and I love the look in black. They dont list the weight so my guess is close to 60. They use some comparison verbage. Still too little and too vague info to pull the trigger...

Did you look into the M600 motor noise?
