Bafang ultra 1000 error code 11

I posted this somewhere on this forum but, not sure how to move it here. I had error code 11 come on screen (fault with temperature sensor inside motor). The short version of my adventure to fix this is I was told I needed a new controller. To get the controller you buy the right side of the motor with it built in. I'm leaving a lot out but, I installed controller on motor and put on bike, turned it on and it comes up error code 11 before I even ride it! My guess is the sensor is NOT on the controller. I believe it's in the motor compartment on the stator because that's where the heat is being generated. There are two small black wires coming out of the actual motor compartment running to the controller that I think might be to the temp sensor. Can anyone confirm that's where the temp sensor would be? is it replaceable? I've taken the gear box completely apart but, haven't dug into motor side (yet), not sure if I should..... Doesn't seam to be a lot on knowledge out there on this motor but, I'm slowly learning the hard way. Thanks in advance for any help. Dave

Well it turns out the two black wires do in fact go to a temp sensor in the stator (windings). From what I gather it is not repairable and will result in having to buy a new motor. I’m thinking why not unplug it from the circuit board? You won’t have a temp sensor but, the motor will (might) run! Or maybe the wires are cut and tied together and insulated, maybe this will fool the controller into thinking all is good. Does the sensor open the circuit when too hot? Or does it close the circuit?Maybe you can get into programming and over ride or eliminate the temp sensor. I’m just thinking out loud here. It would be a shame to ruin the motor because of a bad sensor.
Any thoughts?

Temp sensors typically provide a value in ohms... It's basically a thermal resistor or thermistor.
If you can figure out the correct value, you might be able to connect a new thermistor or resistor to the controller, bypassing the internal one

I'll add to my previous posts that my suggestion is a HACK and would leave you vulnerable to burning up the motor, especially if you abuse it.
If the original failed because you repeatedly abused it.. Then you probably want a proper repair and to learn how to minimize the abuse.

I had no idea that you could replace the stator, I thought they were installed permanently. You probably can tell I'm in over my head ( woodworker by trade) not much of an electrician. I want to say thanks to you guys for the suggestions and info, I think for the price I may get one and figure out how to remove old one and install new one. Salvaging this motor is a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

I think that would work well enough for me... you could select a lower temperature value to compensate for any transfer delay.
If you want an idea of the correct value, measure the resistance across your new motors black leads before installing as finding a printed spec may be illusive.

That won't solve the problem with the faulty thermistor and error code.
If he was interested in the X1, that should have been the replacement motor he's installing tonight.

I suspect they might/could diagnose and/or replace that if you asked. They do have to fully disassemble it for the upgrade anyway. Just throwing out ideas anyway..

I think if I had to go for a new motor I would go that route just to see what the hype is about.
But I don't believe WW is doing third party motor repairs at this point and state that they will not install the X1 on anything less than a fully functioning motor when you send it in.

I’m interested in doing the Archon mod. I’m going to look into getting stator for my old motor (1,300 miles not that old)
once it’s right I might do it. i have a 48v 21ah battery (dorado) type, don’t know if it will supply enough amps to run a 3000w motor. will it still get good distance if you stay off the throttle?
by the way I just got bike up and running with new motor

Well I got the stator out, it wasn’t pretty, it’s ruined by the time it comes out. I’m going to order a new one now and see if I can get it back together and make it run again. I think I said that at one time I found water in it and there was some corrosion so that might have made it harder to get out. There’s Two roll pins that you can only pull out ( can’t get to them from back side) I ended up drilling them out and then it would move.
