Advice on Canyon Grail: ON

Got my Grailon yesterday. Had to wait on battery charging which only took about 4 hours. This machine is amazing. I am working as hard or harder on this bike because the surge in power beckons more form me. Been trying to find garmin mounts and headlight mounts for these oval handle bars. Haven't found anything for headlights. How are you mounting your headlight?

Absolutely loving my Canyon Grail:On. I'm learning that I exert as much or more energy on this beast than I did on my conventional bikes.

Elastic strip on headlight on the lower bar. I use cygo-lite dash pro 600. Be seen , see in a pinch, cheap, lasts long. If you’re going to do nighttime commuting you need more

Word of caution. Pay strict attention to the sizing gidelines for all Canyon bikes specifically Grail:On 8 ebike. I had difficulty using the sizing chart. It kept saying that no bike fit my dimensions, so I always have had medium bikes. Ordered medium and its much more like a large plus. Therein lies the problem with direct purchase. Canyon authorized return, but bike was assembled by Velofix and some of the packing never made it to me. Didn't want to risk damage with non factory packaging so i will keep the bike and adapt the best I can.

Funny. I am normally a Large (58CM) and they insisted I was a Medium. Much too small for me. I ordered a factory blemish so I cannot return for a large. Have constant back pain now that I haven't had after 45 years of riding

Sorry to hear that. I am finding ways to adapt, but will probably put it up for sale sometime in the future. I really like the Bosch power and just wish I had been more diligent with sizing.

Questions for those who have purchased a second battery: Did you also order the outer battery cover from Canyon? Or do you just ride with the battery exposed? Or did a cover come with the battery when you purchased it?
Wow, I had no idea you could even purchase a second battery. I'm not sure if I would want to carry one on my back anyway...lol...

@Stonebluff , @Jeffr , @StanV let me know if you purchased a separate cover or not. thank you.

I tried to purchase a separate cover but none available. I have done several long rides (80 miles) with the exposed battery and it works fine. The cover is a splash guard, not waterproof. I think it’s fine without a cover unless you’re in heavy rain/deep puddles. I carry the second battery in a saddle bag under/behind the seat. Works fine don’t even notice it’s there

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll buy a battery and not worry too much about the lack of cover. What saddle bag do you use?

i’m trying to buy the battery cover from Canyon since April. Still not available. I just taped a piece of plastic on the bottom of the battery as a splash guard. If I do a long ride I put the spare battery in an old Camelback. It is well padded and I have no discomfort carrying the battery on my back. I managed to ride twice 100 miles over an undulating terrain on one battery charge. I really love this bike. The only problem I have is a squeaky seat post. I pulled it out at least 5 times and lubed it with a carbon grease. It helps only for a couple of days. Anyone has a remedy for this problem ?

My problem is that I cracked my front fork and Canyon doesn't have any in stock. And, of course, they use a weird tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" fork size which NO ONE uses. Nice.

Creaking seat post; I called Canyon and they said it never happened to anybody else and said it was because I exceeded the 100 kg weight limit (I don't). Anyway. I tried lubing with "wet" lube (tri-flow) and it stopped the squeaking for a couple of days, Then I tried assembly compound (gritty grease) and it didn't work. Finally I completely disassembled BOTH parts of the seat post and coated everything thoroughly in Phil Wood bicycle grease and it has been about 3 months with no creaking. Good luck and don't bother asking for any tech support; no matter what your problem they will say it is user error and not covered by warranty.

This is the problem when you hire inexperienced customer service reps. That Canyon rep should have said they would research instead of blaming you for the issue. Onto your issue, I thought we weren't supposed to use regular 'lube' for the carbon seatpost? I probably would have cleaned the post thoroughly with alcohol and then applied assembly paste, liberally.

I completely disassembled the seat post and lubed it with carbon grease 3 times. It helped for about a week. I give up and get a different seat post. I weigh 155 lb well below the 100 kg seat post limit. Besides the seat post this is a really good bike

Use regular grease in between the leaves of the seat post. Carbon grease creaks.
