A Teenager Hit Six Cyclists While Trying To Roll Coal And Was Not Arrested

Fair enough, but you cannot deny that the vast majority of trucks and SUVs are used for nothing more strenuous than getting a bag of salad from the grocery store or dropping kids off at school. Enough so that it is a safe bet to reason that somebody you've just met with an SUV or big truck is either posing or compensating and doesn't really need it.
wgaf why someone buys something?
posing or compensating are the only reasons? 🤣

i’m sure we aren’t all living like monks in a monastery. you could argue ebikes are posing or compensating. ppl in houses bigger than needed. with lawns larger than needed. with pools. a tv in each room?

judging others spending habits is asinine. let ppl do what they want with the money they have. it’s one of the few freedoms left 🤣

Honestly I see the same kind of silly excess is people who ride FS Mountain Bikes on paved trails and people who wear high-end technical clothing more suitable for a climb on Torre Egger or the South Howser Spire to a brew pup. It ends up being more about tribal identification than practicality.

I don't know about that. If someone has silly, wasteful spending habits that are more about making an impression than about getting things done I wouldn't hire that person for any position of serious responsibility, trust them with a lot of money, or expect them to show good judgement or discretion in handling any difficult situation. We judge people all the time and it isn't a bad thing. Yes, all people have their eccentricities but there is an issue of scale and we need to pay attention to it.

🤣 ok. technical clothing means not hired and financially irresponsible and unable to handle a difficult situation. what broad strokes we paint with. 🤣

i am all for promoting the benefits of biking (or even walking)

for me it’s too broad a brush to jump to “nobody needs a truck or large suv” and “a subaru suits my needs so it should suit everyone else also”

i don’t need everyone to do what i say or do. why is it we always jump to “controlling others” as the solution for a problem?
Why on earth would you invent quotes that were never said??? This is just plain dishonest, and reduces your credibility.

If you want an F350 dually, go ahead and buy one. Drive it where ever you want. I don't much care. I just noted that the folks around here, who have trucks as work trucks, aren't much into the vanity of over-sized vehicles.

someone else was also talking about subarus.

it wasn’t your post i was referring to.

Yeah, and you wouldn't find someone wearing one of these as civilian clothing kind of odd?
is that pretty common where you are?

to be honest, i try not to draw too many conclusions about a person from a single dimension of their personality or behavioral traits. ppl are paradoxical and complicated and rarely does assessing merely one factor like clothing or the car they drive or the bike they ride tell the whole story.

ppl can do whatever pleases them imho as long as it’s not hurting another.

i’m far less tolerant when innocents are affected and i’m probably in the more brutal end if the spectrum when it comes to personal accountability for actions that harm or attempt to harm another.

I have encountered them in ski towns in Colorado, California, and Utah.

They are ridiculous and insanely impractical as ski clothing and really only make sense if you are mountaineering in Antarctica, Greenland, or similar cold places.

fair enough.
I do, however, have fond memories of watching some fat dumb*ss from Texas wearing a bright pink one at Sundance in Oootah. I frankly wouldn't trust that dude with a stray cat.

The memories are so fond because I was laughing so hard, or trying not to laugh.

I don't think that most people in the US believe cycling is a threat to their way of life.
Sadly for many it is indeed a threat. Just like all the other paranoid fear based rubbish we see. 40 years of promoting sociopathic narcissism as a virtue and empathy as a mortal sin. From fear-mongering of immigrants as all "drug dealers and rapists", to how the evil "socialism" is going to destroy this nation. Even if you're not a liberal, to how the "green new deal" will somehow magically eviscerate this nation's economy. (as if it already isn't) Arrogant self-centered sociopaths will perceive someone doing a "green" activity -- like riding a bike -- as their mortal enemies.

To that end I have difficulty thinking his actually hitting the cyclists was an "accident". His original action of "coal burning" clearly illustrates that sociopathic lack of empathy, and you can bet your sweet bippy that in Texas at least half the population will chalk that up to "boys will be boys" or any of the other lame excuses used to justify unjust sleazy dirtbag bullying behaviors.

Many probably think that cyclists are inconvenient and that the roads were built for only cars. It is more a feeling of entitlement than fear. There is also a certain type of idiot out there that thinks this type of stunt is fun and cool to do. I have run for exercise for more than 40 years. I have had drinks thrown at me, cars swerve at me to scare me, horns honked, and the ever popular "run Forrest run" yelled at me many many times.
Again, sociopathic if not psychopathic behaviors. Typical of limp dicks feeling the need to do harm to others JUST to show how "big" and "powerful" they are; trying to compensate for their lack of manhood by screaming "I'm an Alpha Male"... when their very behaviors prove they're not even Epsilons. They literally NEED to hurt others to feel better about themselves. It's the same crowd that runs around screaming about how most of us are all "living in fear" in regards to the pandemic, but CANNOT leave their front porch without their penis extensions. The types who go out and buy SUV's and oversized pickup trucks and then never once drive them off the pavement or fill the bed with anything a normal car trunk can't handle, just so they can tailgate or otherwise intimidate others on the road. The ones who go out and drop 20k on a Harley fat boy, truck it into Hampton, and then sit around pointing and laughing at the "losers" on their Kawasaki's and Suzuki's.

Like that pansy I dealt with here and his jacked-up pickup covered in right wingnut hate stickers, gun rack, confederate flag, etc, etc who screamed at me to "get out of the road" right next to the sign that said "no bicycles on sidewalk" who at the next corner -- next to the "share the road" sign -- decided to run me off the road directly in front of a meter maid.. and ended up crying like a little b**** in the back of the cruiser when they hauled him off. Oh yeah, "Alpha male" right there.

Or the other turd we had locally who would throw sticks at the tires of passing bicycles because they were "in the road", who got a very nice introduction to my left hook. He started carrying a gun after that which was fun since he was already on probation for assault, then bragged about how "People are less likely to hit me because I carry a gun" on the Colbert Report. Good going dumbass, brag on TV about your probation violation. Naturally that particular waste of flesh made national news at the Tiki Torch convention.

And that last part may have given away to some of you exactly who I'm referring to. Let's just say that psychopath can't well do much of anything.

When we have nutjobs like that out to harm others JUST to feel better about themselves, I'm hard pressed to think that at least half this nation doesn't treat "the rest of us" as a threat to "their way of life". Evangelical whackjobs, racists, and bigots of every stripe overlap greatly with the "big man syndrome" bullies who go out of their way to make the rest of us miserable; endangering our mental and physical well being, as well as our lives and futures.

... and to be frank if they feel threatened, GOOD! They should be. Nothing is going to get better until we weed the wolves out of the flock.

there’s no suitable punishment but putting the kid to sleep would suffice. moral compass like that won’t return to normal. f that kid. f his parents.

Barry Fife was an incompetent as was the Waller ‘Officer’. Well…it‘s Texas where a privileged Kid from ‘a good family’ in a small town is treated so casually while a traveler on the interstate gets five years for an ounce of pot.
To misquote the late, great Billy Joe Shaver “There’s some good folks in Texas, but they all dead.” Actually its a great state and but for voter suppression and grotesque GerryMandering could be a leader in solving the nation’s existential problems. And the music…don’t get me started.

Righteous, eloquent rant! You nailed it.
