hi,
I'm planning on replacing the stock controller & display for my Pace 500 bike with an aftermarket set. If anyone has experience doing that, particularly with a KT branded controller & display I'd be very interested to hear before I get too far along and screw too much up.
Initially I was just going to buy the retrofit kit from Aventon but that is out of stock and I'm impatient. Then I decided I wanted to find an unlocked version of the original oem controller, but they (Tongsheng) doesn't appear to sell for aftermarket. The closest I could find was a distributor in Germany who did custom coding on the same model controller used for some other brand of bike. I figured even if everything went right, there'd be no way the cost would be reasonable.
Finally, I decided to go with KT brand controllers - they were pretty much identical in size to BAFang's controllers, and the reviews seemed to indicate the KT displays were much better (and that they weren't cross compatible). Unfortunately the controllers are about a half inch too wide and tall to fit in the frame where the old one is. It looks like they could be removed from their cases though - and I'm hoping the circuit board is much smaller. If so, I'll just pot it with epoxy and put it in. The bike frame should protect it and function as a heat sink.
Anyway, that is my plan. I ordered the KT-48V 22A dual controller with Julet connectors, a KT-LCD8H display and two extension cables (a double female for the PAS and an 9 pin extension cord for the motor) tonight. They should arrive in 2-4 weeks from China. Fingers crossed I can make the controller fit, and that all the wiring pinouts are the same.
