Admins, I'm new to Ebikes and the EBR forums, so please delete this thread if this has already been covered or move this thread if I've posted in the wrong forum.
I've been 'into' cars and detailing all of my life, so I've applied a couple of trusted products to my new Ebike in the hopes of keeping it looking new with the least amount of effort.
First off, in only a few days I've noticed that the in frame painted battery on my Momentum Transend E+ is looking grubby from installing and removing it to bring it indoors for every ride. I have a roll of 3M paint protection film left over from covering the door sills on our cars, so I decided to cover the battery with some. I first used auto polish to remove the finger prints and scuff marks on the battery, trimmed a section of 3M film to about 1/16" smaller than the battery and wrapped the unpainted parts of the battery in masking tape to keep it dry. It's then a simple task to spray a mist of soapy water on the painted portion of the battery, remove the paper backing from the film and squeegeeing it into place, squeezing out the water and any air bubbles. The film is nearly invisible and has a rubbery consistency that should protect the paint from nicks and scratches from handling and storing it every ride.
I suppose you could cover the entire bike frame in 3M film, but that would take more time than I care to spend. I have been using Meguires X-Press synthetic Spray Wax on my vehicles for years, it can be applied to paint, anodized aluminum, stainless steel and plastic trim without fear of leaving any residue. I use it on every surface of our cars except for the windshield and tires, spray on, buff off and it beads water for months. I put it on the entire bike except for the brakes, grips, chain and saddle. It should make dirt and dust stick less and make cleanups easy.
