3 Piece Derailleur Cable?

I will be changing the groupset on my e-bike sometime soon and have been advised that the gear cable is '3 piece.' The bike is 1000 W Bafang mid-drive with Alivio 9 speed. There is a motor cut-off triggered with gear changes and I'd like to maintain that although I (usually) ease up considerably prior to gear changes. I plan to replace with a Shimano Deore or Sram X5 9 speed derailleur but haven't landed that decision yet.

I am familiar with cable replacement on a typical road bike or Mtn bike, but have never heard of a '3 piece' system and despite searching have found no instruction or guidance on how to do this. If anyone has info to share or can point to an instruction blog or video it would be very appreciated. Thanks.

I think that the advice you were given was regarding the outer jacket the cable runs in. The actual cable will still be 1 piece like you are used to. The Bafang shift detector can be sort of a pain to push the cable through, but shouldn't be too big a deal. The rest of it you'll find you're pretty familiar with when you get into it.
