A heads up in case anyone is considering getting a Creo - they are 25% off on the Specialized (US) website. Looks like they’re cleaning out the last of the 2021’s. I just got a carbon comp and I’ll give a report after another week of riding as to my impressions on my Creo vs. my Vado SL.

I wonder if the specialized stores will honor these prices...probably only online...

Where's your promised "report"?

Oh yeah, here’s my impressions of the difference:
I put 1500 miles or so on a Vado SL 4.0 (XL), then decided I missed the subtle difference of a full-on road bike so I bought a creo carbon comp (XXL) at the 25% off sale price. I have over 1K miles on the creo now so I do have a good feel for the difference.
The VSL was a nice bike and I would still be happy with it if I hadn’t gone for the creo. The creo, however, is more enjoyable and I ride farther, a little faster, and work harder on it than I did with the Vado sl.

The geometry difference is more than just the difference between drop and flat bars. My position (and I had a fit done on both bikes) is subtly different, with a little more bend at the hips, as well as the change in upper body position due to the stack, reach and bars.

I missed the feel of drop bar hand positions on the VSL, even with both outer and inner bar ends on it, and the creo seems to encourage me to work harder. I use a lower eco setting on the creo and my average power output is higher.

Some of the difference is in my mind - I feel like I’m on my old road bike on the creo and I ride it like a roadie rides. The VSL always reminded me that I was riding an urban flat bar/commuter, which is fine but made me miss my road bike days. I found myself trying to lean over more and more, spending more time on on the inner bar ends to get closer to a road bike feel.

So, both are great bikes but the creo is a step up for me and its relaxed geometry enabled me to find the right compromise between aero and comfort that works for me.

I'm a fresh owner of a used VSL 4.0 EQ. Compared to my 2020 Creo Comp Carpon it's quite stiff/uncomfortable (due to several factors). But I like both, the Vado SL for allday use, the Creo for longer and more sportive and offroad tours. If I would have the VSL in XL two years ago and for this price I might not have bouhgt the Creo, which was with all upgrades four times the price of this VSL. But the comparison is no fair, "comparable" would be the alloy Creo and the VSL 5.0, which are almost the same if I take of the few better parts at the VSL 5.0.

But if you need a Creo XXL, the VSL is too small for you and this would affect your "feelings" for it. I have both in XL, VSL fits perfect, Creo slightly big (put a shoter stem), XXL would be impossible for me.

The fastest way to upgrade your Vado SL Jodi is to install the Redshift ShockStop stem and seat-post :) And go with Pathfinder Pro 2Bliss tyres. (I probably have already mentioned that).

My Vado sl XL was a good fit for me, no parts changes needed. I added inner and outer bar ends for multiple hand positions, otherwise it fit me well. My Creo XXL is also a good fit. I put a 90 mm stem on it and it fits me better than other road bikes I’ve had. The creo XL I tried felt small to me.
