2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Courtroom drama with castration.

Polish Reddit opinion .

We love political satire - under the Communist regime, we had a tradition of kabaret (old school name for standupers) that got respect points for every joke that is clever enough to pass the censorship (we liked to call ourselves the funniest barrack in the detention camp).

We have a big tradition of language-related jokes - homonyms, mispronounciation of various works, wordplay. People in informal situations often have a formula 1 racing game of pointing each other's mistakes fast as a lightning (especially accidental sexual innuendos).

One of the best quotes from "Sexmission" occured when the two guys could reach the surface of the Earth with a lift:
-- Where do we go now?
-- Let's head East. There must be some civilisation!
:D
That was censored. I think I could watch the movie during my military service in an open air cinema at a military range. That scene was in. How we laughed!

By the way, the ultimate password that opened the lift was KURWA MAĆ!, which is the most common Polish swear word :)

The UK youtuber who obtained real North Korean phones, theres no wifi and the Mapping app only has North Korea, you can download apps off an online store, but you have to visit a government shop to have them enabled.

Around here they've cancelled dawn for the next couple months. Dusk starts about 9 am and lasts until 4pm or so.

I was dismissed when I failed to produce anything shiny or edible from my person.

Just over 300 miles to go to reach my 2025 goal of 5200 miles. With 2 atmospheric rivers due next week and then the holidays, it's likely to go down to the wire.

5200 miles is a good goal!

Well, you guys can't do much about the gray, but the latter's entirely in your hands.

How about a public wellness media blitz with a slogan like "If all that gray's getting you down, make the best of it while you're there!" Just not on billboards — too much distracted driving already.
;^}

I'll let myself out.

Snake Bitten (Not The Cycling Term!)

After a month of my illness and recovery, I felt good on Sunday morning, and decided to get a ride to see my friend Tommy.

Initially, all was good. Here's a picture from a privately owned Tram Cemetery slightly outside Warsaw city limits. (That was the place where I discovered my older Samsung phone lost its focus on one of rides sometimes in the past).

As we met and restarted the ride with the ultimate goal to have a lunch at META Bar together, I felt my Vado behave strangely... A rear wheel flat caused by a glass shard, so rare on our bike paths!

It first looked easy to fix. After having lost two spare inner tubes, I took a city bus to Decathlon Wilanów while Tommy rode his bike up there. By miracle, we had one of the so rare "trade Sundays" on that day! (Big shops are closed on almost all Sundays in Poland). Note: You can transport your bike in Warsaw free on the bus, tram or metro as long as there is free space there.

Bad, Bad Luck!
Decathlon Wilanów was a very small store, and it only offered the most basic cycling stuff such as inner tubes. The store had no servicing department, and even their compressor was broken! We at least were offered a floor pump. The nightmare continued. The list of damaged inner tubes:
  1. A puncture with a shard of glass
  2. Bad valve on the first replacement inner tube
  3. The smallest part of the valve core mysteriously torn off on a pump nozzle removal
  4. Inner tube punctured by a piece of a broken tyre lever that got into the tyre... (Don't buy the Topeak tyre lever made of hard plastic. It cracks). That one happened to a newly bought inner tube in Decathlon. I started losing my mind!
Eventually, we could ride again. Overall, we wasted as many as two hours!

We both had delicious pizza, tea and Kvass in META Bar. Turned out, I was perceived as a regular patron there, and had a nice chat with the owner :) The place is 32 km (20 mi) from where I live! Ah. The owner recommended I would better avoid Kabaty Woods at night because of wild boars :) He mentioned no wild boar attacks on a human were reported yet but the beasts were aggressive towards pet dogs!

No further issues during my night ride home. I love the lighting of my Vado 6.0!

The bus ride was excluded from the stats.

Sorry about your bad luck with the tubes. ☹️
