You see, all true roadies use km and km/h because they are comparing their performance. For a true roadie, it is not the long distance. It is the performance Which you can only compare using the same units

When it comes to gravel cycling, the race formats in Europe are often based on miles: a 50-miler, a 100 mile classic and so on. It is because gravel cycling is the sport invented by Americans!

Rab, please watch some GCN, the Global Cycling Network, a YT channel made by British roadies. They all use metric units!

Yes, too nasty for me to ride in, so the fluid trainer it is. I used to enjoy the cold and snow when I was younger and stronger but not so much anymore. Next lifetime if don't get to select Southern California I'd be happy with Scotland or Poland

Velominati ride in pelotons, count the laps, and only talk about FTP, nutrition etc I'm so glad you are not one of them! For me, you are an adventure cyclist who chose the road. Please do not get offended! You are one of the best assets we have here!

Im watching a video doing a seemingly deserved hit piece on John Forrester the 70s cycling activist who managed to change the course of Americas cycling infrastructure based on his ideology that anyone not on drop handlebars or on the road were not proper cyclists.

@Watana Bob, @fritz katzenjammer: I feel your pain, guys! 18 F is technically speaking the lower limit for riding an e-bike.
If you ever decide riding in the low temps, there is the best tutorial I could find in these Forums: Winter Biking Advice From A Minnesotan. As Polish winters tend to be harsh, I've taken those advices very seriously since the winter of 2019. I ride all year long (I must because health considerations and my decision to get rid of the car).

January 2021... Five minutes later, the road was covered with deep snow. It was -9 C (16 F) on the ride.

I’ve lived in some lovely places in northern Canada so I’m familiar with real winter.

The kind where you can walk up the snowdrift in front of the house right up onto the roof with just a small step at the edge of the roof.

or where the daytime high was -30 to -35F for over a month straight, not including the nasty prairie wind that howled through town which the guy on the radio said it made it feel like minus 55… like you could feel anything.

I don’t miss the Fokker Eindeker size mosquitos either. ( but at least winter made them go away )

I don’t miss living up there at all, nope, I’m quite glad we moved down here.

I worry about my brother though… he moved north from there.

I know loads of roadies with the same mentality, tbh some of my mates are the mtb equivalent.
An old friend of ours has become a roadie snob, he turned up to do a ride with us, he looked at the wifes 1400 quid Giant road bike and said.
'I thought you had a proper bike'.

All this cold weather talk reminds me of how it used to be in sunny Virginia, US. We have yet to have a true killing frost this year. I've had, in the 90s, a week's worth of zero (f) on the farm. And ten years ago I had 36in of snow on the ground where my calves climbed a corner drift and got into a neighbors backyard. Climate change is running amok in the weak winters since, though not if you listen to the throne in DC.
I've noticed the small stand of corn in the field for several weeks. Was it left for the crows and deer? I'll ask when I run into the farmer at the local store.
Today started cold and was in mid-60s f as I finished my little jaunt.

31 degrees F here today, winds in the 20 to 30 mph range, no riding for me today. Next Saturday is suppose to be 70 so I haven’t given up yet.
