2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

You guys thought I was kidding or nuts talking about the mothership from Zargon IV orbiting behind the moon. Off-topic, too.

Well, they're here, and they're getting pretty brazen about it. Undisguised Zargonian away team spotted on yesterday's stop at the Camp Store at the South Carlsbad State Beach Campground near our house.

"Cool shuttlecraft", I said to the leader, who seemed to be in a chatty mood.
"Cool bike, dude! Is that a Vado SL? Always wanted one of those!" said the leader.
"Thanks! Is your shuttle electric, too?"
"Nah, too dangerous. We use dilithium now."

These guys didn't say much. Note the temporary subspace antenna behind the left one.

And this wasn't the first time. A Zargonian scientific away team showed up when the dinosaurs came through here last spring.

Locals view the Camp Store as an important part of south Carlsbad charm, and their patronage keeps it busy year round. The concessionaire, quite an interesting guy, likes to put on fun displays from time to time.

The Camp Store's also a favorite stop for cyclists on coast rides. Doesn't get much better than communing with the ocean on an old lifeguard chair with an ice-cold kombucha and a bag of chips on a quiet Thursday afternoon.

I can spot a mini-motorcycle in the background :)

That's what you took away from my post??

They're everywhere here. Keep in mind that most ebike miles here are for transportation or other utility purposes, including surfboard transport.

Nearly all of them represent a car not on the road. As long as they're ridden responsibly, and most are, who cares?

I took three photos you made to my Facebook, and showed my friends the Zargonians in Southern California :)

The @Brix' comment: 'A pink flying saucer? Yuck!' :D
You can hardly expect good taste in color from bright green aliens. And to be fair, their visible spectrum is backward and upside down from ours.

Wonder if their spaceship is lithium powered??! ;)
As noted earlier, they've moved on to dilithium antimatter drive for safety reasons.
