2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

I needed 82 miles to reach 1000 for the year and today was a perfect cycling day so I set off with the intention of bagging another imperial century! It was a frosty start with light winds for a nice change, the temp was set to rise to 8C which is really mild for February! I decided I would head for Knockhill Racing Circuit and then ride alongside the Ochil hills by cycling through Dollar and Tillicoultry in the foothills! I stuck to the main roads for the first couple of hours due to the possibility of ice on the back roads, I enjoyed lots of descending after reaching Shieldhill with the big descent down into Glenn Village being the highlight! I was gutted to see some road works on the descent and the traffic lights changed to red as I was building up speed, still managed 40.6mph though...

I then made my way out to the Clackmannanshire Bridge where I had a stunning view of the Ochil Hills for the first time in a while, they have been hidden by thick cloud for some time so it was nice to see some blue skies again!

1740691576254.jpeg

I then took the cycle path into Kincardine and headed north to Forrestmill, on the way I had this view of the Ochils!

1740691712704.jpeg

At Forestmill I took the back road to Saline, one of my favourite roads thanks to very little traffic and a lovely smooth surface! Nearing Saline I had another nice view of the hills above Knockhill circuit!

1740691869104.jpeg

Then I had the big climb up through Saline and Steelend, I stopped part way up for a snack and a roadie passed and shot up the hill like it was nothing! I only stopped for a couple of minutes but didn't see him again, he was a fit lad...

1740692001862.jpeg

At the top of the climb the road flattens out for a couple of miles before the turnoff for Knockhill when it was time to start climbing again, I stopped at the top of the climb for this photo! Its a cracking descent past the circuit here!

1740692265554.jpeg

A short time later I grabbed this photo of the hill the circuit is named after!

1740692311111.jpeg

Its a nice view down the valley also, the Ochil hills can be seen once again!

1740692337223.jpeg

Another mile or so and another stop for a photo opportunity!

1740692415551.jpeg

A closer view of the Ochils!

1740692495233.jpeg

It was then time to enjoy the awesome descent down into Powmill, one of the main reasons I chose this route! From Powmill I continued north for Rumbling Bridge where I had another stunning view of the hills!

1740692633198.jpeg

I then came across these lovely Shetland ponies, most of them ignored me...😂
1740692737494.jpeg

I continued north into Yetts O Muckhart (a proper Scottish name);) and then turned SW for Dollar and then Tillicoultry where I stopped for a well earned lunch at 51 miles! I normally use the main road along here but I spotted a smaller road which passes through Glenochil and I was glad I chose it, especially with these views of the Ochils!

1740693067702.jpeg

1740693078859.jpeg

I then continued west and took the road to Bridge of Allan, skirting the city of Stirling! I used a lot of cycle paths here to avoid the busier roads, the paths are in excellent condition thankfully and they were deserted which was a bonus! From Bridge of Allan I took the road to Doune which starts with a big climb, followed by a fast descent down into Doune! I was going to turn south here and take the quieter roads to avoid Stirling city centre but changed my mind and headed west to Thornhill and then turned south for Kippen!

I had some nice views of the mountains to the north on the road to Thornhill!

1740693701392.jpeg

1740693714973.jpeg

This is why I chose this road!

1740693734874.jpeg

1740693765256.jpeg

1740693775470.jpeg

Its a massive climb up through Kippen but its followed by one of the best descents in the country! Near the top I saw a big squall passing over the mountains to the north, I actually caught the edge of the rain but it was mostly sunny!

1740693920418.jpeg

I was approaching Loch Laggan when the rain started to fall again, a little heavier but it soon cleared!

1740693986816.jpeg

I then had this view of the Campsie Hills!

1740694023347.jpeg

Then I had this double rainbow!

1740694087953.jpeg

The descent down into the valley was just amazing, the roads were bone dry thankfully! I arrived in Fintry where I turned east towards the Campsies, at this point I had just reached 82 miles and for a second I even thought about heading up over the Campsies but I came to my senses and chose the road past the Carron Valley Reservoir!

I'm glad I decided against the big climb, although I still had a tough climb the way I was going!

The Campsies climb would have been brutal!

1740694437192.jpeg

The road past the reservoir is in great condition for the most part, this was a tough climb with almost 84 miles in my legs!

1740694488726.jpeg

My last 2 photos as I passed the reservoir!

1740694571010.jpeg

1740694584354.jpeg

I was now looking forward to some nice descents on the road down into Denny and I had what liitle wind there was right at my back all the way down! After reaching Denny I headed for Bonnybridge where I turned west alongside the canal before turning south and heading up the back roads to Falkirk! I had a lot of climbing ahead once again and 100 miles came up at the top of one of the climbs! Once in Falkirk I took my usual road to Slamannan and then over the back roads to Longriggend and down into Caldercruix where I turned west for home! I arrived home around 17.45, having set off at 9am and I was completely spent!😂

What a day though, it will live long in the memory! I easily passed my 1000 miles, now 1038 and I also passed 37000 miles on my amazing bike which will be 7 years old at the end of March! 37094 to be exact, what a bike it has been!👍I think I will sleep very well tonight...;) Also I'm almost certain I have never managed 2 imperial centuries In February before!

I did another night ride, just the three of us, no pics.

I'm the only one on an ebike, but the other two are very fit on manual fatties.

I decided to drop back about 100ft, just a constant beautiful scene of them ahead threading through the forest with their powerul lights turning the trees into ever moving overlapping shadows.
The gentle whirr of the Yamaha motor, the stars popping in out out of the forest canopy and then we broke through into a path near the sea, no Moon, but because I dropped back and with my low power light I still had good night vision, the whole arena of stars opened up above me.
Pretty magical.
Home now with coffee and an iced bun, good days

Don't feel bad... I'm only at 35kms/21mi
I wasn't much better until 3 flights of 18 hours just flying time until we reached Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Road circumference around the island is 31.7 km and I've several days of that now rationalizing the resort happy hour at 4, pre bbq happy hour bbq happy hour maybe I should make 2 trips each day. This is our 5th trip here and such a laid back experience the Polynesian (Maori) residents so happy and welcoming more hugs than I'm comfortable with but pretty special. As an example no tipping here maybe round the bill up, they say if you felt I did something good for you pay it forward and do a good deed for somebody else. We always rent ebikes from the same place - hub drives and are like tanks but perfect 👌 for whatever pace you want to keep. I tried to attach a photo or 2 but like mentioned here I will have to sort out the resizing thing . . .

Animal!!

OK, let’s review here… RabH has 1000 miles for the year on Feb 28… I have six. No problem.
I hope you catch a break with your weather soon Dave, looking at your last post its easy to see why you are stuck on 6 miles!
Very impressive, @RabH ! You've ridden 1000 mi in 57 days or so. How many rides did that take?
Thank you Jeremy, just 14 rides so an average of 74 miles! When the nice days come along I like to make the most of them...

Im getting very tempted by the Amflow, I didnt realise they were 6 grand.
Downside..carbon frame, non removable battery, app required to register and use....and one guys didnt turn on first ride because of software glitch.
If you dont register with an account the bike will shut off after a few miles.
Good god.🙄

Upside 120nm, 1000w boost, 800wh battery. 21kg and if you move to New Zealand you can derestrict it.😉

I'll buy a used one for around 4K.

Yet another VANMOOF?

Buy a used Levo...
Nothing like that dutch bike -van moof were shite because they made everything proprietary and were a classic dodgy tiny start up. DJI are massive, an existing company worth billions who design their own battery and motor tech from ground up and use well known top of the range MTB components at a pretty reasonable price. They seem to be good with warranty issues, even have a rep on the EMTB Forum who will answer riders problems and tell them where to take their Amflow bike if it has problems. And they've put the fear of god into Specialized that's for sure. The Levo is old tech now and the new G4 is delayed and delayed and knowing Spesh will cost an arm and a leg when it comes out- probably in April latest rumour, but expecting S Work models first with a price tag over £10k.

Been out a few months, waiting to see if the frames snap 😂
They can take a sim card as well for tracking etc.
Which clearly includes geofencing, mandatory updates, pay per mile and limp modes for servicing.
Tinhat today, true tomorrow

true tomorrow
What frame size are you buying? (It looks like a tall bike!)

Is the warranty transferable?

I can see the manufacturer provides not only a fast charger but also a torque wrench, shock pump as well as the lights. Will you get this?

Make sure you are getting all the paperwork including the proof of purchase.

This fella rides the s*it out of one at that big ol trail centre in Wales, Dyfi. Huge jumps. Fella he's with is on an Atherton (glued carbon/titanium lugs £6k mtb, non- ebike) and he's well able to keep up with him on the heavier Amflow ebike showing how good it is to throw around.

Actually jokes that people online worried the frame might break on the big jumps.
