Bosch Active plus, 20 quid all day till 8pm, rode it everywhere, very impressed.
Slight damage to bar end when I decided to watch the jets takeoff from the end of the runway, everyone got blown over, including me and the bike.

Climbed Mikita peak, three miles straight up from the town, Turbo all the way in 28C heat.
No helmet...they only had motorbike ones.
44mph on way down.
I rode around the entire backstreets on it, waving to old Greek men and women chilling outside their houses in the shade.

Its funny how we admire the beauty of these tiny Island while the owner of the local Taven rides a 220mph nitrous Huyabusa!!!

I haven't added much lately as my riding is 90%+ commuting these days. Thought I'd put down some numbers from this work week's riding:
  • 4/0 - Number of days biking vs driving to work (Monday was a holiday)
  • 2 - Number of street cleaners seen cleaning bike lanes!
  • 1 - Number of people passed out on MUP that I had to ride around
  • 109 - miles ridden on commutes (approximately 1 Rab)
  • 41.8 mph. Top speed, going down my favorite winding descent by Boeing Creek Park.
  • 31% - steepest grade - down a tiny street in Richmond Beach with a 90 degree turn at the bottom.

Around The Bolimów Lake :)

These weather forecasts, how misleading they can be! The weather forecast for the last weekend was: 'Violent rainfall, thunderstorms!' My Saturday was thus wasted (but it was a recovery day for me), and I decided not to let Sunday go to waste! Started my ride from that full blown train station in a small village of Bednary at 9:02 am (riding a Vado SL) to arrive in Nieborów just after 4 km. Nieborów is famous for its Park, Palace, and Museum (one of the most beautiful historical aristocrat residences in Poland) but I decided to make a little detour this time...

To see a Czechoslovak made SKOT, an armoured fighting vehicle of the Warsaw Pact era! I found myself in the Automotive Museum in Nieborów!

Posterunek 77 (Police Station '77) restaurant. The sign made me laugh! "No entry of horse-drawn vehicles" with the table reading: "Does not apply to the members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party" :D

Łowicz Road (technically, a "forest public road") is a 14 km long stretch of the best gravel we have (in the highly developed area where asphalt roads are dominant).

It took me less than an hour net to pedal from Bednary to Skierniewice-Rawka. I had hot chocolate at Żabka (Little Frog, which is the biggest Polish network of convenience stores). Then, I was the first customer in Ice-Land. As I started enjoying my ice-cream, it started raining. I hid myself under a big umbrella of the cafe. As I finished, the raining stopped! :)

Re-entering the Bolimów Landscape Park (BPK). I modified my own ride plan to see what the 'Koperstein Bridge' was. A start point of kayaking expeditions on the Rawka it is but the bridge led to nowhere! I eventually rode into a damaged muddy singletrack and fell in nettles! :D (It was the softest crash I've ever had, haha!)

A longer rest at the south bank of the Bolimów Lake. I announced a group ride on a Facebook cycling group of 19.8 k members and no-one joined me! Those lazy Warsawers! :)

Almost any rider would descend from the Lake embankment on the west side (top) and continue through the Rawka Gangway. I decided to make a rather unusual ride, that is, "circumnavigate" the Lake. See the lake from the north (centre) and east (bottom). Bolimów Lake has only two entry points, the rest of the embankment being surrounded by private properties.


As I was leaving the Lake area, I was stopped by a female cyclist who could not find her way. I gave her the correct directions and advice. In the evening, she mentioned that encounter on the very same FB group!

A cemetery of German soldiers, WW2. There's also a nearby graveyard of Russian soldiers of WW1. The name of the village is Joachimów-Mogiły (the second word meaning 'graves', a coincidence?)

As I reached the shelter in Bolimów Sawmill, it started raining again. I checked my weather radar apps to find out I was just on the edge of rain-clouds. Checked the railway timetable and could ride again, dry!

On time to catch the train! A small village of Radziwiłłów Mazowiecki also sports a train station but that one dates from 1840's or the Warsaw-Vienna Railroad!

Now, I am going on a two-week sabbatical from riding! Will travel to Germany to work and then start (or not) in the Mazovian Gravel race!

I didn't get to cycle to Knockhill on Sunday but I sure made up for it yesterday! With an awful forecast for the remainder of the week I made the most of the last nice day, I had things to do in the morning (including a lovely morning walk at the park) so didn't get out until midday! It was a beautiful but very blustery day with gusts around 30mph from the west so I made the most of that wind for the first 25 miles, my average speed was 18mph at that point! I headed out to Torphicen and started the climb up to Beecraigs Country Park, this photo part way up the climb will give you an idea of how nice it was!

I continued up the second part of the climb and had a blast shooting down the fast descent before taking on the next climb up to the park where I had this nice view of the Ochil Hills!

Then I had the steep descent down into the valley to look forward to, 41.1mph down this one! Time for more photos while I had a snack!

It was such a clear day so I had a good view of the Forth Bridges from here!

I passed Kingscavil as I didn't want to go down that scary descent with a 30mph crosswind, opting for the descent down into Bridgend which is tree lined so I was protected from the wind! From Bridgend I took the road to Philpstoun and stopped at the canal where I was rewarded with this wonderful sight! 😁

I waited around for a bit in the hope they would take to the water, grabbing more photos in the meantime!

I waited a good 10 minutes and they weren't budging so I reluctantly left and decided to head over the bridge and grab a photo of the canal from there!

I jumped back on the bike and glanced to my right to see the swans and cygnets entering the water but it was right into the sun and my photos were truly awful, then my luck was in as they passed under the bridge!:D

This was my first time taking this road but I knew it would bring me out near Linlithgow at some point! I was passing a farm and this beautiful white horse was posing for a photo!

Eventually the road brought me back to the main road into Linlithgow where the town was busy as always, I was glad to get through and join the back road towards Standburn! Its another big climb and directly into the 30mph wind now, thankfully I did get some respite thanks to the trees! At Standburn the road is like a rollercoaster, rising and falling and twisting and turning and is great fun even in blustery conditions! I then had the awesome descent down the back roads to Avonbridge, which is tree lined so I was protected from the strong crosswind!

At Avonbridge I took the back roads to Slamannan, with a bit of a detour up the big climb towards Shieldhill which got me out of the wind for a bit! I stuck to the back roads all the way home and arrived just in time for dinner with just under 64 miles covered! I wasn't finished yet, my plan was to have dinner and head back out in the evening to get the remaining 36 miles I required for the 100! I enjoyed the break and was feeling good when I set off just after 6pm, heading SE down to Allanton on mostly back roads! At Allanton I joined the main A71 towards Breich, the road was deserted at this time of the evening and I wasn't complaining!

I opted for the big climb up to Climpy and had the gusty wind pushing me up the climb, then enjoyed the descent down into Forth with the intention of taking the back road to Braehead but the road was closed! I decided to just continue and see where the road took me and spotted a sign for Auchengray, as I continued along the road it dawned on me where it would lead me and I knew I had a big climb coming! I had seen the road many times passing through Auchengray but it was a rough looking road so I didn't fancy heading down it before! This time I was going up so at low speeds it was no problem at all, I don't think I will be descening it anytime soon...;)

I could see my next road from the top of the climb and knew it would be straight into the wind! It starts with a big descent and then its a gradual but long climb!

It was worth all the effort for the following views of the Tinto and Pentland hills! It was such a beautiful clear evening and totally deserted, I knew at this point I was doing way more than 100 miles!😄

The photos don't actually do it any justice, it was just breathtaking and I had this view for many many miles! I was now on the back road to Yieldshields and the 100 miles came up just 2 miles after passing through the village! I was now enjoying the recently resurfaced road to Carluke and then headed north for Allanton where I took the road down to Bonkle before heading up the big climb to Hareshaw and on to Newhouse and back home on the main road which was deserted at such a late hour! I arrived home at 21.30 shattered but on a real high after such an excellent day on the bike!😁 I had my shower and conked out soon after, waking up at 8.45am...😂 I did get up for the toilet a couple of times having consumed litres of water but had no problem getting back to sleep!;) Back to back 112 milers, I'm looking forward to a break now..😂

As I was totally full, had a rest by a statue of a distinguished Boy Scout (the Polish Baden-Powell). The statue is of supernatural size and it felt creepy there! :D

I did put some podge on in Greece
 
Back home from Skiathos, this is the hire ebike, very good condition, he told me it won't get stolen ,but do lock it because the local kids 'borrow' them and they have to find them to see where they left it.

Irode around the old town first, the locals just tear about on scooters, the only issue is stupid Brits on the wrong side of the 'road'.

Of course these tiny side streets are rammed with diners at night, and still they ride past on scooters brushing the arms of the people sat down, its a sort of organised chaos.

Just around the corner is the runway, this is where everyone congregates to film and feel the jet wash.

I was surprised that a jet landing 50ft above your head was not really scary at all, just a great spectacle.

The lens distorts the image, but you can see how steep this road is from the angle on the buildings, 28C heat, it was horrific to climb even in Turbo.

Overlooking Skiathos,no shade whatsoever, I ended up pouring a whole 2 litre water bottle over my head.

I circled around the town high up in the hills, totally exhausting, but it led me right to the top of the old town, so many beautiful sights and gorgeous little paths back to the harbour.

the jet blast from even that distance was like firing a hairdryer in your face, the people at the barrier actually got blown across the road.

I set off to the north of the Island hugging the coast, the bike handled the paths well , but 29 inch wheels are much more of a handful on tight terrain.

This was the first shade for a good 30 mins, this entire track took 20 mins to climb in Turbo, it was endless

All for this view and a lovely singletrack to the beach, unfortunately the gopro ran out of battery, but I was actually glad to have a reason to set back and get a cold drink under an umbrella.

Very impressed with the motor, Bosch Active plus, lovely and quiet, but I think my bbshd would have made the climbs quite a bit easier in the heat, it just has that extra oomph for the silly steep roads.
 
I had to consult Google on that! 😃 Hopefully, your pedalling might help you reducing some of the podge!

E-Bikes Allowed By Mazovian Gravel!

A small but comforting news. Mazowiecki Gravel has adjusted its Rules for 2024. The relevant point reads:
"Participation in the ultramarathon is open to any bicycle propelled by muscle power. Riders may use electrically assisted cycles; however, they will not be eligible for classification".

It was a single person -- yours truly -- who had been a prime mover for that change :) (When I started in MG 2023, e-bikes were strictly forbidden in the race but I got a permission to ride anyway).

The world is changing. I've found a recent article (title: 'Are You Cheating?') by the man who organized Sudovia Gravel: he wrote he was riding e-bikes (Bosch SX and Bosch CX) himself, only not in the race. That's why he allowed e-Sprint category in all the three races he's organizing this year (Sudovia, Varmia, and Great Lakes). Paweł Kuflikowski is actually promoting e-bikes: 'I'm opening the mountains to more riders'. ❤️ Now, Marcin Twaróg and Bartek Swacha of MG allowed pedal e-bikes on a honest principle.

It will spread, I'm sure :)

Then he/she is on the final classification list above me, still no place but a shorter ride time 😊

During the e-race in Sudovia, the other guy would've won as a better cyclist (his e-bike was inferior to mine) but he lost his pannier. Life is life 😊
