2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Boy, that loss of photos since January 6 in EBR's recent server maintenance really hit my 3 favorite threads hard (this one, show us where you ride, and show us interesting stuff you come across). Wish I had the energy to reload my many lost images, but I don't see that happening.

All is not lost however. Looks like @RabH has already reloaded some of his.

Now that you mention it, I think that I may have just discovered my favorite time to ride for the remainder of the week.

Well done, Rab! Just like you that ride of yours doesn’t quit. Have you given any thought as to what you might replace it with when and/or if that fateful day arrives? Inquiring minds want to know. J/K. ;) We all know how much you love riding that bike so it’s only fitting that you should have nothing but good thoughts the next time you are racing down one of those gorgeous valley roads.

Thanks Art, I'm actually dreading that day as its highly unlikely I will have the funds for another e bike...I still have my trusty old Giant CRS Hybrid that I bought new in 2009, no motor though... 😂 Maybe a lottery win will come my way...🤣 Awesome video mate!

Yes I have reposted all of my January photos, I have a hard drive full of them...;)

I managed to repost all but a handful of the images that I lost in the kerfuffle. Thankfully most of them were exclusive to this thread.

I’m still unable to gain access clicking on the Forum > General Ebike Forums. I keep getting Error 404 Page Not Found. Site only allows me to join the general ebike discussion. Mobile’s fine though. Anyone else encounter this issue or is admin still working out the kinks?

Works for me. Maybe try clearing cache in the browser?

I deleted browser cache several times with no effect. I am able to get through by opening the link on a private window but that seems a bit of a work around.

Cleared the cache again, now the Forum works as expected.
Lost photos is another thing.

Benefits of the latest maintenance action:
  • The Forum Search seems to be working now (not totally well but still...)
  • I can share links to my posts elsewhere, for example on Facebook.

I had a very lazy day yesterday while the weather was truly abysmal, I woke up this morning and it was looking a bit better so I headed to Callander Park again for a nice morning walk. When I got home I was feeling good so I checked the forecast for the afternoon and it was a bit iffy and looking at the sky to the SW where the weather was coming from I was in two minds about going out...then I looked at the forecast for the next 4 days and decided to have an early lunch and just go for it! Lets just say its not looking nice... ;)

It was actually dry when I set off just before midday but it was pretty windy, around 25-30mph which compared to recently was a mere breeze! 😂 I had a route in mind which wouldn't be as tough as my last 2 rides and it worked out really well, I took the back roads down to Allanton and instead of heading straight for West Calder I diverted up the back road to the south of Allanton as its a really fun quiet road and it actually takes you back down into Allanton at the other side!

Of course less than an hour into the ride and the weather closed in and it started to rain! At least it was at my back with the strong wind pushing me towards West Calder and luckily the wind blew the squall through thankfully. At West Calder I had covered 25 miles and it was time to turn into the wind and once again the weather closed in and the rain returned, I was wishing I had wipers on my glasses! ;) Luckily it wasn't heavy rain though and I plodded on into the strong wind passing through Stoneyburn and then I turned north for Longridge where it became a crosswind for almost 4 miles, with the wind direction it wasn't much of an issue anyway.

I passed through Whitburn and used the cycle path up to Armadale and then I took the quiet back road to Blackridge, into the strong headwind once again but thankfully the rain actually stopped and I could see where I was going again...😂 From there it was a straight road home passing through Caldercruix when the rain started again, I said before it always rains there! 😂 Then I passed through Plains and arrived in my home town with 46 miles covered, I then did a loop around town to get my 4 miles to make it another 50 miler and despite the inclement weather I really enjoyed it! :D I managed to pick the perfect route for the conditions and for once it was a bit less hilly, no photos today I'm afraid...it has been quite a week of cycling with 222 miles covered from my 4 rides and 15500ft of elevation gain!

Here's my Devon coastal ride, I did this on the botched rotor repair, but I was happy it was bullet proof, and no one to hurt but myself.
I just love the fact that I can ride these paths and not meet a single person to moan at me for riding on them 😛.

It mostly about Hallsands, the village that the sea wiped out, when I was a little kid and living near there, I remember the huge twin steer trucks carrying 15ft wide boulders from the quarries to protect the villages along the coast.
It's only s matter of time though, the road got washed away again a few years back.

Near as I can tell, @Chargeride never rides this bike in a full state of repair just for the sheer challenge/adventure of it.

Running out of battery — or having the battery or a wheel just fall off — many miles from home is hardly an adventure for a guy who routinely rides muddy/rocky single-tracks right on the edges of huge drops. I wouldn't even walk some of those paths!

the accent is simply gorgeous
I perhaps should have given up learning English long time ago! What's in it for me if I cannot understand the local people in Britain? Oh, wait... I think my English is still better than one of so-called "A Friend In Dick" Mr. Resident of Poland :D

the source of your hillbillies
I started thinking of accents of Poland. While we have two extra nations (Silesian and Kashubians), and also the people of Podlachia sound a little bit funny, Poles speak a pretty uniform language. Unless you get into some remote village in Lesser Poland and a farmer starts speaking a really weird archaic language!

In Marchocice, Lesser Poland. Our grand-grandfather Filip was a miller there between 1808 and 1825.
