2022 Vado 4.0 SL - Future Shock upgrade?

Greetings! The missus and I are new ebike owners. She has a 2020 Vado 4.0, I have a 2022 Vado 4.0 SL incoming.

I'm a fan of Future Shock, as I've got it on a 2021 Sirrus X 5.0.

It's my understanding the 2022 Vado 4.0 SL doesn't come stock with Future Shock - that was for more expensive models - but is upgradeable to one, as it has the duckbill housing. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard! Hope you get it to work.

My 2022 SL 5.0 came with the spring-only Future Shock 1.0 1.5 — with tubeless tires at 35-40 psi, all the suspension I need in my road+gravel terrain. Would have to ride them side-by-side to know what the damping in higher Future Shock versions really adds.

Compatibility with Vado SL 4.0

The 2022 Turbo Vado SL 4.0 is compatible with the Future Shock 1.5 system. This means you can upgrade or replace components with the Future Shock 1.5 if needed.

Key Features of Future Shock 1.5

  • Travel: Offers 20mm of suspension travel.
  • Adjustment: Allows for customization to suit rider preferences.
  • Installation: Can be integrated into the Vado SL 4.0 without major modifications.

Conclusion

If you are considering adding or replacing the Future Shock on your 2022 Vado SL 4.0, it is compatible and can enhance your riding experience.

Found this on the interwebs, so I answered my own question, and thanks Jeremy!

You must upgrade the fork to the carbon one to install Future Shock.

I contacted Specialized to see what part # I needed.

They told me I want the Vado SL 5.0 carbon fork for a size small frame, part # S192300032.

Great - but where do I find one?

Specialized doesn't appear to sell them on their website.

Is there a website - not necessarily US-based - where they are available?

The whole changing the front fork to get future shock sounds like a right palaver. Would you not just flip the stem for a redshift or something similar?

@RasCnoic - good question. I'll have to check out their offerings.

I'm old enough to remember the Girvin Flexstem. Such things do exist.
