Ordered January 15, 2021. Received December 17, 2021. AMAZING. After nine months on my Allant and 1,100 miles, I am sooo enjoying this Powerfly. It’s magic on the trails and a delight on pavement. I think this type of ebike is going to dominate the market. Tim

Now you are going to have to change your handle. FS is a whole different ball game. Enjoy the ride!

I don't think it would. It is like saying the automotive SUV is the thing to dominate the market ;) Because your Powerfly FS 9 EQ is actually an e-bike SUV. Still, many other e-bike types do exist and take their place. For instance, a non-equipped e-MTB is the thing for technical singletrack riding; or, a lightweight road/gravel e-bike is unrivalled elsewhere.

No doubt, you own an excellent e-bike that can be used in many roles!

P.S. Is your Powerfly a Class 1 or Class 3 e-bike?

Class 1 (20mph.). Yes, the assist cuts out easily and frequently but I probably shouldn’t be going that fast for safety but its fun!

The SUV analogy is good, but I am thinking a motorcycle analogy to the BMW GS (Gelande/Strasse - off road/on road) is better. Even Harley Davidson introduced a GS type motorcycle this year - the Pan America.

This overgrown dirt bike is popular because of its versatility. The GS is called the Swiss Army knife of motorcycles. Comfortable upright seating position, long travel suspension, highly maneuverable, and relatively light weight. Go anywhere adventure to follow any road that intrigues you even if it’s dirt or gravel.

So far that’s what this Powerfly is allowing me to do. Tim

Makes sense, as it gives you easier access to national and state parks!
Still, there are certainly situations in which you appreciate your Allant 8S high speed!
Yes, the 28 moh of the Allant spoils me. I do wish the PowerFly was 28 mph. That is probably going to be the salient feature of the Allant that will keep me riding it. Tim

Thank you. Deore XT is shockingly wonderful compared to Deore on my Allant. I am constantly feathering the brakes on the trails and the XT’s are perfect for that. Tim
Tim, it is probably just an impression.
  • Your Allant+ is equipped with a 10-speed drivetrain with an 11-42t cassette
  • Your Powerfly is equipped with a 12-speed drivetrain with a 10-51t cassette.
Meaning, you get smaller jumps between the gears and wider gear range on your Powerfly. Performance wise, Deore and Deore XT are equal (if we are talking shifting smoothness, for instance). Only your riding impression is better with Deore XT because of more gears and greater gearing range. (I know as I have owned a 10-speed Deore, 11-speed SLX, and 12-speed Deore XT) :)

I have a Powerfly FS 4 on order for the spring. I thought about selling my Dual Sport+ gravel e-bike but I decided to keep it. Heck I may get a domane +HP and have a bike for road/gravel/trails. Life is too short for compromise. :)

Stefan, I the the EMTN mode is also contributing to the better experience of the XT because it reduces the need to shift by a lot since you have access to full power for steeper hills without having to change gears of increase the assist level. Tim

Tim it is good to own the best drive-train in the market, no doubt. I only say Deore (non-XT) is not something to be thrown under the bus :)
