I've had this bike for 4 months (600+miles) now and don't know where this sound is coming from. I hear it on rough patches of asphalt and choppy fire roads?

*It sounds as though it's falling apart when I drop rear wheel from about six inches off ground. Sounds like loud chain slap or rear derailleur but it isn't that?
Took it into bike shop and they couldn't really figure out either but said it was planetary gears backlash near BB?

It's still there so what do I do now?

Anyone else know of or have this problem??

Thanks

My Bosch unit and my Shimano ep8 both have similar noises especially if I am not pedaling.

do you hear it if you're pedaling hard on a smooth road, and then abruptly stop pedaling?

what about when you're NOT pedaling, but bombing downhill on rough asphalt or fire roads?

i ask the above because the first step is to isolate whether it's coming from the rear or the middle. rear will be a traditional "bike" issue - rear derailleur, rear hub, driver, cassette, etc.

middle will likely be related to the motor and the motor's clutch or freewheel mechanism. all creos i've ridden make a bit of a "thunk" sometimes when you're pedaling hard and then stop - probably interia and some play in the clutch mechanism. normal. however, it's not terribly frequent nor terribly loud. just a little clunk.

I hear it mostly on the Trek Bosch bike when I am not pedaling and going over rough road surfaces but never hear it while I am pedaling. I don't think I do.... The Shimano EP8 is known to have the rattle in the motor when say going down hill not pedaling on mountain bike trails. Mine both come from the motor area
