1000 mile troubles. Are they common?

My experience with my two relatively new ebikes is not good after 1000 miles. Both bikes are different brands and cost around $3000. I thought that that would be a good price point for avoiding problems. I guess not. I’ve had motors stop working, rear wheel clunking, belt derive squeaking, lights stop working, bike computer stop working, break caliper comeing loose, kick stand fall off, battery box screws fall out and even had the brand logo plate fall off the front of the bike. All fixable but irritating and right at about 1000 miles. I’m 75 years old and only do easy riding around city streets. Are ebike a programmed to self destruct at 1000 miles? Ed

Nope, turned over 2,900 miles today on my Haibike Trekking. All I’ve done is change the chain.

To honest I have a few eBikes and so far not one issue and I'm out riding every day. Sorry you're having problems.

I've put on about 1500 mi since October conversion. I had some motor cover screws come undone, that I retightened with blue loktite. I've had the motor shaft nuts come loose and retightened them twice. I've had to replace the rear brake caliper pads.

After 3 ½ years and 8,000 miles on two electric bikes (about 1,000 miles on a Magnum and 7,000 miles on Haibike), no, the kind of troubles you are describing are not common. There is maintenance, such as replacing items that wear out such as brake pads, chains, and tires. I did have to replace my dropper seat post after 2 ½ years (about 6,000 miles), and that would probably fall under your "troubles" category. Other than that, no.

Doing a little routine maintenance every 200 miles or so will prevent many of the problems you mentioned. If you're handy with tools, check & tighten screws, look for loose parts and check for loose electrical connectors. More serious issues should be left for the pros unless you have some bike mechanic skills.

On my Pedego Ridgerider I had the motor and torque sensor fail at around the 1000 mile mark. I also had to replace the stretched chain.

seems like sort of a loaded question. without saying what brand(s) it is, or what you have done in terms of taking the ebike back to the dealer to get the issues resolved, a generic accusation like that, postulated as a question, probably isn't going to help your situation much. The thousands of posts here at EBR, would likely reveal that most people no matter the brand aren't seeing those generic problems at '1000 miles.' generally people are very helpful on this forum, or at least try to be, when more specifics are detailed. and it hasn't been my experience in 4 years of selling ebikes that you need to spend a certain amount to avoid problems. The rapid success of firms like Rad Power, Aventon, Ride1Up and others that offer lower priced ebikes, where prices are around $1400 to $1500, and many other firms would suggest that while some ebike brands do have some hiccups, and when there are repeats of some issues, most firms make attempts to resolve the issues, but 99.9% brands probably do not just have problems 'at 1000 miles' on all their ebikes.
