    Trek allant + 7

The Allant OEM drive train components are low-to-mid level quality. Be sure you are upgrading components when possible. I have a 7s, ride it exceptionally hard almost exclusively in Turbo. I replaced the stretched chain, worn cassette and bent derailleur at 1,200 miles. Since then a new...

    Best Shifting/Pedaling Technique?

Yes to all. Also remember to downshift before you stop and pedal a round to two to get the chain on the right sprocket. Up shifting while pedaling can be noisy, but shouldn’t hurt the components.

Rant, Complain, Just Let It Out In Here. Others May Sympathize

Think positively to use your motor’s highest assist. It doesn’t make your bike go faster, it just makes your bike easier to pedal. Enjoy the motor assist. That is what e-bikes are built for. Your knees will be grateful, and you will not hurt your bike.

got a stay indoors alert this morning a hazards smoke alert.

My biking rigor during high AQI alerts. Very effective and oddly comfortable.

    Rear derailleur life expectancy

Check the teeth on your cassette. A worn gear on the cassette is a much more likely cause of shifting problems.

New Trek owner: range extender, second battery, or extra powertube?

Congrats on your new 4s. A sweet ride. You pose a tough question to which I struggled with 2 years ago with my 7s. The 500w Powertube did not contain sufficient electrons for my daily rides. My biggest concern was how the Range Boost would look on my bike (Ugly!). Final solution: Installed the...

Going on my first out of town trip away from home.

A great ride! Hope all continues to go well. My wife and I just drove that exact route 2 weeks ago prior to a weeklong biking trip out of Bend and Sisters. We were surprised how few bikes we encountered on the 101, although car/truck traffic was never ending in both directions. Be safe! Seaside...

Are all Bosch mid-drive systems Class 1 only and... is that good or bad?

Yes, and I can get to 20+mph in two pedal strokes. I shift frequently but no more than 2 gears. I just like to ride fast. This is just one reason I don’t prefer a throttle for myself — it is unnecessary and could slow me down.

Are all Bosch mid-drive systems Class 1 only and... is that good or bad?

People curse me for advising to put your motor on Sport or Turbo when starting, especially if needing to cross traffic. Then why not just leave it in turbo? Cursing me that I am ruining my motor by riding in Turbo 98% of the time. Curses from my LBS as well. But for those who try it, they...

Having trouble deciding between the Trek Verve+ 3, Allant+ 7, and Allant +7S

Very good choice! A friend rides one and loves it. You will log many happy smile miles.

    Bosch dealer software?

Does anyone know on a Bosch system what an Error 50 means? This just showed up on my Purion display. 13,500km

    Cycling Shorts?

Having to depend upon changing clothes just to go riding is not in my book. Instead, I use a decent saddle. Adjusted correctly, 150 miles/week are free from discomfort.

    Stem riser

A stem riser can be an excellent solution — adjustable or rigid. If self-installing pay attention to the length of your cables to ensure you can turn your handlebars without binding.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Crater Lake, OR. We did not see the “old man” but he was spotted as still floating. Nor are these our ebikes but instead from our tour group. Weather was spectacular that day but we had previously canceled one day’s ride up through McKenzie Pass from Sisters due to smoke so bad the local...

Too hot for me (and e-bikes)!

My favorite time to ride is after 10pm when the temps are still in the 80s. Very little/no traffic on our streets. T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. Ideal!

Too hot for me (and e-bikes)!

I am a warm & hot weather enthusiast. When the temps at our home in AZ exceed 100, the wind speed is often at near zero which means any direction we ride we get a breeze. Much more fun than riding when below freezing at our home in Wisconsin. Which is why we go to AZ from October into May.

a little hot on the ride home.

The heat was bearable but yesterday’s smoke was not. Biking outside Sisters, OR toward McKenzie Pass where the road is closed over the pass due to an active fire when the wind shifted blowing smoke from the fire directly at us. Visibility became less than 1/4 mile. We were wearing KN95 masks but...

    Crater Lake Ride the Rim

We are riding the rim of Crater Lake this week. Looking forward to it. we have been forewarned that road construction has started (5 year project) closing a portion of the road.

    Bosch Purion Display Controls

I totally agree on Bosch speed control, but I am more inclined to blame the frame manufacturer, e.g., Trek, for improper wheel circumference settings. Am I wrong?
