    First time Electric Biker

We bought our two Lectric XP 2.0st bikes about a year ago and love them. Accessorized with folding basket in back for grocery runs, smartphone holder, left side mirror for traffic, Lectric foldylock and alarm/horn with remote. The bikes came with 14-28 freewheels and the very first thing we...

How much "power" do I really need?

Our Lectric XP 2.0st bikes have a hub motor and controller that outputs 48v @ 18a, or about 1hp. Working through the numbers, 1hp will lift bike and rider about two vertical feet per second up a slope. The big thing is to have a low-enough first gear. We swapped the stock 14-28 freewheel for...

Pure nickel strips for battery pack

I get nervous when I read threads such as this one. Admittedly, I'm new to the world of ebikes, but after seeing the effects of runaway/damaged cells on YouTube I have to conclude that we are playing a risky game--if thermal runaway ever should happen for any reason, it will happen big-time and...

    Lectric XP 3.0 review

By the way, the Lectric Foldylock is actually a pretty good lock. Far better than cables or chains, based on YouTube. But we also have a motion-sensitive alarm on our bikes. NOTHING stops a thief with an angle grinder.

    Lectric XP 3.0 review

Perhaps it's too late to cancel your handlebar order, but I found there are two cheap ways to move the handlebars closer: (1) Search these forums for "Cansucc." That's the unfortunate name for a beautifully-crafted handlebar mover (~3"). (2) Loosen the allen screw inside the front stem and...

I'm curious...for those of you who leave your bike locked for an hour or more, do you remove the battery and take it with you?

All you need to do to greatly reduce chance of theft is to spraypaint a portion of your bike+battery dayglow orange. What idiot thief will take it then, knowing it is instantly identifiable? Yeah, I know, pride of ownership and all that. I'd rather have the Peace of Mind knowing the bike will...

Lectric Bikes - The story of how two guys built a $13M company in a year

Dragging this thread back out into the open because it illustrates how far these guys have come in just a couple of years. Anybody know how many Lectrics there are now? I'd guess closing on 150,000... We have two of the XP 2.0st bikes and have outfitted them with folding baskets, USB ports...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

So many amazing photos and places to ride. Here is my humble contribution. It's by the Tualatin River in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

How is purely torque-sensing PAS actually implemented?

Our little Lectric XP 2.0st bikes have cadence (which we've shut off) and twist throttle, which seems very natural to us. Nonetheless, what would seem to me to be an ideal setup would be no cadence sensing at all and the use of an idler wheel engaging the upper chain just behind the chainring...

    Depreciation of Electric Bikes

I have been curious about ebikes selling for $3K+ when well-regarded feature-laden brands like Lectric sell for $1K. I assume the expensive ebikes offer details that appeal to certain buyers. Nonetheless, in my local Craigslist there are several Lectric 2.0 ebikes (last year's model) selling...

    Best ebike for Seniors Citizens

Wife and I love our little Lectrics. Step-through, fat tire, rugged, and now with adequate battery range. Certainly a step-through design is inherently heavier than a triangular frame, but how much? maybe a pound? The Lectrics use a massive battery box supplanted by a short frame support and...

    Consumer Reports: Ebike Fires

This is easy to fix. The problem is with junk cells. Simply require UL certification for all ebike battery packs. Limits for over and under-voltage, shorts, and temperature extremes. And apartment complexes will include in their leases that only UL certified ebikes and other mobility devices...

My XP 2.0 arrived today and I’m hesitant to open the box because…

I think you are correct; for a major rip like that the shipper obviously has to take responsibility. But then there's the hassle factor, the additional delay in getting the product to the customer, and the possibility that there was enough padding that the contents didn't suffer damage, which...

My XP 2.0 arrived today and I’m hesitant to open the box because…

Hold on. Shipping an entire bike back and then shipping a different bike back out? Seriously? A hundred bucks in extra shipping costs? I have no doubt that Lectric would have replaced the whole bike if the frame had been bent or cracked. Most things, however, are just a matter of bolting on...

NYC PSA E-bike Battery Fires 11/11/22 NBC News

After reading what's been said here and also in the mainstream media, it seems to me that 99% of the fires would be totally eliminated if there was a UL certification process and that non-UL cells and equipment could not be sold. Then no need for extreme charging measures.

An Electric car (70kwh) has ~ 140 Ebike batteries (500wh)

VW did a very detailed study that showed an EV actually produced MORE CO2 than a comparable ICE car up until the 60,000 mile mark. That's because an EV battery consumes a tremendous amount of resources in manufacturing. After the 60,000 mile mark, an EV produces less CO2 than an ICE depending on...

    UL Certified Ebikes

A little over a year has gone by since the last post. Are there any new e-bikes that are certified UL? Or in particular are there batteries that are certified UL? Since the battery would have a fuse, I wouldn't think it would be all that critical for the e-bike electronics themselves to be...

XP 3.0 any custom settings ideas

Yes. Also, just read a review of the 3.0 on YouTube, and the reviewer said the correction factor had changed. So use your smartphone GPS with some sort of mileage tracker and go for a 10-minute ride and compare the results. I think the reviewer said putting in a 22" wheel factor gave accurate...

Known Issues & Problems with Lectric eBikes Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Since on our two XP2.0st bikes the 11mph buzzing goes away when the rear fender is dampened by a sponge wedged under the rack, I'd suspect it's a fender-mount issue. Shouldn't be hard to put in some tiny o-rings on the two mounting points (top and forward). A springtime project for me. The...

XP 2.0 Battery compatible with XP 3.0?

No need to use the "Hey, it's cheap, so what do you expect?" slam. Lectric is blowing away the competition by selling a well-designed ebike at an astonishing price when compared to the competition. And $1,200 for a complete feature-filled ebike that INCLUDES a decent 672WH battery is...
