When can we expect e-bikes with the new Bosch rear hub motor to appear? Seems like a good move for them to integrate it with their Smart System including the LED Controller or Intuvia 200 display and the Ebike Flow app. Journalist Honza Galla described the specs including 45nm torque, 2.3kg/5.1lb weight, a bottom bracket cadence sensor, and ability to be powered by various batteries including the PowerTube 360 or a single PowerMore 250 range extender pack (or two), and ability to thread on either a cassette, a single speed belt sprocket, or a 2-speed UTgear H2 gearbox.

The Bosch Hub Line with a PowerMore 250 battery has similar specs to the Aikema rear hub motor and small battery on my Urtopia Fold and I wonder if this might entice folding bike brands? An OEM Bosch hub solution might appeal to Brompton & Bike Friday, and in the UK the ARCC conversion kit for Moulton and Brompton uses Bosch power tool batteries. However the omission of a torque PAS sensor is odd so hopefully they will add one in due course.
 

The first thing I could notice was the motor was compatible with the thru-axle. Given the rated motor peak power of 400 W, I wonder how safe it would be in a longer perspective. Still, a very modern approach. Also, it looks the cable connector is big and solid, which is important for field repairs. Are you sure Dewey there is no torque sensor? Please read the web page above.

I'm not totally against the hub-drive motor. It finds its use in the city and for the commutes, especially on the flat. I'm only surprised the mid-drive motor leader has "invented" the hub-drive motor so late.

Re: no torque PAS sensor, I typed that because Honza Galla reported it, and the Bosch Technical Data section on the link you posted says it uses a cadence sensor in the small print para 11.

There is an FAQ stating “Intelligent sensors constantly analyse your ride and adjust the delivery of support, requiring no intervention in Auto mode.”

Looking at one of the bikes listed on the Bosch website you linked to, the Vello Via+ folding ebike, describes it uses a combination of cadence+speed+incline sensors to determine power. Bosch call it intelligent sensor fusion

I'm confused. Is there the "intelligent sensor fusion" or just a cadence sensor? Bosch, the leader in mid-drive motors should know the sensor technology at best?
