Kickstand Alternative ( YES ! )

I found this thread searching around for a kickstand or alternative that would work with my bike. I've wasted time and $ on three different types, none of which worked, including: three that clamped on one way or another the chainstay (they all rotated on the chainstay) and one removable made for QR axle, I had to enlarge the hole for the axle part for my thru axle - it wasn't stable and would tend to loosen the axle when the stand rotated. If I had been aware of the clickstand I would have purchased one and come out ahead. But I didn't and I'm tired of spending money for stuff that ends up on the shelf. I'm hoping to do the Mickelson trail and ride the Custer wildlife loop and up to Rushmore in a few weeks depending on weather and want an alternative to laying my bike on the ground. Looking around I found this, a collapsible cane that I bought a few years ago post arthroscopic knee surgery. It's been sitting in my car unused. Folds down to ~10" and will fit in a handlebar or frame bag. Seems pretty stable using a velcro strap on the front brake. Bonus I can use it hiking if my knee is sore.

It is good for bad dogs too.

I think screwing this tool hook into tent poles or maybe into the top of an old treking pole might work also. I have several old treking poles and might give that a try. Comes in pack of two, if I don't like it I'll use it to hang shovel and rake, I want them for that anyway.

MacGyver would very much approve of this solution. Love it when something I already own turns out to be just the thing — especially when it turns out to have even more uses.

Sounds like you have some gorgeous riding ahead in the Black Hills.

If you run into bears, remember, they're big Fred Astaire fans. Give 'em a tap routine with that cane, and they'll forget all about eating you. Carry a top hat if you can.
