Kickstand Alternative ( YES ! )

I have never owned a phone in my life. The wife´s is an appendage like another foot. I have 4 functional engines & 2 POS. Two 35 cc 4strokes, honda & sooby, & two Identical Tanaka PF 40cc 2strokes. The
Tanakas weigh 7 pd, my batteries are 9 & 11 pds not counting motor weight. They are the Rolls Royce of weedeater engines. They burn cleaner than the 2 4strkes, sold for up to $435 before production ended because they could no longer be made at a profit. 7 year warranty, & neither one is even broken in.
As set up they can ´easily´take a bike 200+ mpg, speeds to 36 mph though 15 mph is best for range.
I certainly understand the lack of interest in carrying a phone. I held off for years until my last job required me to carry one.
As far as weight is concerned, you don’t mention the gas weight. Just as you don’t mention the ebike motor weight. You must be quite the small engine mechanic! That’s a disappearing craft these days.

Being deaf is a good excuse not to have one. My wife got a captioned call machine for me, but
I never call anyone & never heard it ringing so it went back which is fine cuz 90% of calls were
telemarketing anywho.😫 I hate the damn things. my wife is constant fiddling with hers & talking to it.
I guess it´s her alter ego answering back? I think she´s possessed.
gas weight is insignifigant;; the stock 1 liter tank will take me 65 miles. I also have a 3 liter plastic
jerry can that mounts below the engine. Clutches are easy; other than that, the tanakas never need work
4 strokes have far more parts, I don´t mess with em.

65 miles to a liter sounds unbelievable, but the thing is I´ve got it set up to run barely above
idle at 13 mph yet matching my comfortable range of cadence so that when pedaling neither
the engine or myself is putting forth much energy. (or if I get lazy, I can just run throttle only😜)

Didn’t realize you are deaf. That said, deafness is a good reason to have one. Today’s phones have a lot of accessibility tools built in such as vibration ringing and text messaging via dictation. Some even use them to control hearing aids. I would be lost without mine these days. I use my phone’s camera constantly to document things, family, friends, heart rate, EKGs, rides, yada, yada, yada.
Gas weight may be insignificant but it does exist along with the 3 liter plastic jerry can.

Even at 3 liters, gas weight doesn´t equal the weight of my electric motor & gets lighter the further I go.
As for phones, I simply don´t need one or the expense of owning one. I miss pay phones, a dime &
reverse charges. Thereś still one in Fossil Orygun cuz you won´t get any bars there.

Dallant, what you fail to grasp is that, apart from a cpl. forums & old friends still living, I am a
completely antisocial misanthrope with no desire to associate with other humans other than
out of necessity. I regard phones as a annoying nuisance beyond occupying my wife when she
might otherwise be annoying me.🥴

I get it but you are using technology on a daily basis to talk globally with people you don’t know. It’s feasible you could use a phone to do all of your forum connections.

Feasible, but not bloody likely. I´ve pretty much abandoned some forms of technology not to much avail.
I have some understanding of mechanical things, others confound me. I still can´t set the clock on the
damn microwave or operate a dvd player.🤔 I have learned to operate the coffee maker, that being
an essential survival skill.

Curious about your gasser bike. Especially the weed wacker motor. There is a short oval dirt track here where they race midget cars powered by weed wacker and chainsaw motors. They go about 20 to 30 mph like a bike and have functional wings to hold them in the turns.

Well it´ś not one of those gawdawful cheap chain drive kits & has evolved over 2 decades &
dozen DIY builds with mixed success. The kit as well as the motor is no longer available.
I built a number of DIY friction & belt drives. The last belt drive worked well but was heavier than
the G.E.B.E kit I was avoiding laying out the money to buy. Golden Eagle Bike Engines has
since gone under. Of the many bike kits that were out then, the GEBE kit was focused on fuel
efficiency rather than power or speed. The design had flaws & took a bike with certain specs,
The primary pulley was too small & did not have enuff teeth to properly grip the cogged belt.
Slippage quickly wore out both belt and gear. I solved that with a little larger gear, but that meant
having to pedal off to 8 mph so as not to wear the clutch. The larger gear had potential for greater
speed, but my purpose was to match my cadence range to the engine at an efficient low rpm.
The extreme range is possible thru a symbiosis of rider & engine.
My 2 Tanaka Pure Fire 4000s are 4210s from the last production run. When the yen began to fall
against the dollar they became too expensive to manufacture. It´s a 40cc 2 stroke of remarkable
quality that burns cleaner than most if not all 4 strokes, 2.2 hp (1650w). 4 strokes top out around
7,200 rpm & have twice as many parts to wear out, The tanaka can do 11,000 static or with a
performance carb & exhaust, but stock is 9,000 limited & that´s fine. Everything about
the stock is aimed at a durable engine to last for years. I idle & vary speeds on mlne from time to
time when not in use. I just now shut one off that ran for 1/2 hr. I held my hand to the metal case;
It wasn´t even warm, air cooled, but with a fan flywheel. (maybe an hour, I kinda forgot about it.)

So two to three times the power and range of a good middrive from a LBS for a similar weight penalty (motor and battery or motor and 3 liters of gas?
I assume it smells like gasoline and it is noisy, but thats really good performance. If people were using that instead of SUVs we would not have a fuel crisis for another couple of centuries or more. Does it vibrate a lot?

No battery? The average lawn mower stinks 4 times as much & is louder, Once carbon builds up
in the can it gets far less loud. I added padding to the grips, vibration barely noticeable.. One kit
with bike & sooby engine I bought from two little old sisters, one whose husband died, for $240.
they wer apologetic since the belt was shot & the engine wasn´t working.$350 kit, $300 engine,
$450 bike like new. I had belt & clutch, also needed a fuel filter..

The midget racers don't have mufflers or even electric starters. Do you have both?

No starter, pull cord, stock can muffler. loud when new, less so once carbon builds up in the muffler.
The plus for the 35cc 4 strokes is that they are much quieter, but harder to maintain. I think the
subaru is better than the honda overall. They are still available.1.3 hp. There are still friction drive
kits pretty cheap, but they don´t do well in wet conditions & will eat your tire if you throttle up
too quickly. Chain drive kits are dangerous unless very carefully installed & those engines are unreliable.
Manual clutches are federally illegal, centrifugal clutches only on gas bikes, though some states allow
them. Fed limits to 50cc & 20mph on the flat under throttle, but again some states allow more.
Electric is still best if you don´t have far to go, but most gas kits are considerably cheaper that ebikes.
Because they lumped all 2 strokes together they may not be legal in certain states other than off road.
Doesn´t make sense since 2 stroke lawn mowers are worse but still legal everywhere.
I have a 42/34/24 chainring that makes the bike relatively easy to pedal without power so if there´s
doubt i can still get along. I just put on my stealth engine cover, looks like a strange pannier. Legally
gas bikes are a quagmire of diverse laws. If you ride responsibly with lights on, helmet, mirror & a
vest, you should be okay outside of large urban areas.

How is it I have never seen or heard of this thing? I HATE my kickstand. Though I have to have a stand. It's this ugly rattling protrusion hanging off the back of my bike. Hate it.

'darlinsk' has graced us with pics of her new beautiful Niner bike and she has what looks like a collapsible stick to hold up her bike. Where do we get these things?

View attachment 78493

Or am I just seeing things, that's her walking stick and the bike is magically standing up?
I have the kind that bolts onto the non drive side arm between the pedal and hub. You just set it where it is best suited then tighten it up. Works a treat, no noise or rattling or getting in the way or anything. It’s easy to use and then tuck up when you’re ready to set off. I’m sure mine is fixed to the frame but you get them as an add on too. The leg is also extendable or retractable to whatever height best suits your bike.

So Art, I think that about covered the topic; any other questions? Climate aside, we should be conserving
petroleum as a resource too precious to burn.( promiscuously )

Nope. I was just curious about those bikes. You mentioned before that you are almost deaf and haven't any neighbors, so I figured the noise didn't bother you or anyone else , and I personally like the smell of gasoline so long as it's faint.
Harley Davidson started out making motorized bycycles, but moved into big engines ASAP, and I wouldn't be surprised if the major ebike manufacturers do the same.
The amount of petroleum that uses isn't even a rounding error on a truck or SUV.

Major manufacturers? Don´t know, but there are already a lot of ´e-motorcycles´ to be had if you want one.
I just don´t need to go that fast. I certainly don´t want to spend $40K on an e-car. Supposedly there will be
some winterized rollerskates coming from India for around $4000, little more than enclosed golf carts.
I don´t recall saying I had no neighbors, just few old friends still living. I don´t know my neighbor´s name
that has lived across the street for 25 years. We did visit briefly in 2000 when I was a census taker, but
I´ve forgotten. Since I´ve lived on this ´half block´12 of my neighbors have passed away. Sometimes
one will borrow something; sometimes I even get it back.
There have been so many environmentally sound vehicles & innovations buried by big oil & the auto
industry with the help of congress & senseless restrictions. We could have solved current issues 40
years ago. I know, one of those innovations was mine.
