Parent Mode

This is a new one on me, and my first impression is that it’s a very good idea/feature. The new Juiced Scrambler — a high-powered dirt bike-ish affair — has “parent mode” which limits speed/power. I haven’t read up on the details, but this seems like a good way to avoid abusive riding for parents who want to let their kids ride one of these beasts (or buy them one).

Do other bikes have this feature? I know that the former Juiced did not. Well, definitely not on my model.

Just curious what people think about this… I know many of you object to these high-powered ebikes on principle, and I get it. But, seriously speaking, what’s wrong with this approach? It could even be mandated in law, which (IMO) would be better than unenforceable power limits that make no sense to me.

When I was an child everything we had, had Parent Mode.
If it was used to cause trouble of any kind it was taken away. If we caused trouble in a way that disrespected others.. it came with an additional ass_kicking.
So for the most part... you always avoided triggering Parent Mode

It does sound like a good idea on paper, but a kid can still ride like an idiot at 10mph.

The real issue is parent are not being parents.

I think I would rather have telematic data mode (real time date for speed, GPS location, Geo fencing, etc...). I had something similar for my son when he started driving call MotoSaftey that plugged into the car OBDII port. It tracked in real time driving habits and sent alerts if he exceeded any limits (speeding, hard braking, geofencing, hours of operations, etc..). Any issues start with warnings and end up with no driving privileges if my conditions are violated. Same rules for all electronic devices.

I mean, perhaps someday we’d get to that. In all honesty, I don’t want my bike all that connected, but I could see more information be available to the parent down the road. Anyway, cheers!

It was also carried over to the school, it was called "The board of education",
3' long and full of holes..........,if you smart, you never wanted a visit,
all thou several seemed to enjoy it........

I think it is a gimmick that won't get used. At least not for teenagers. Maybe if you are putting a ten year old on the bike.
