Hi,

I wondered if anyone might have succeeded in getting a Bosch powermore 250 range extender to work with a Gazelle ultimate C5 that also has a 625Wh battery fitted?

My ebike specialist dealer is trying to get this to work for me.

They contacted Bosch before we started and they confirmed that the range extender would work on this bike. Then when we got the range extender, the software said it needed an adjustment to make the battery work.

The dealer guy tried change the settings to make the battery work, but the particular setting that he needs to change is not there in the menu. He contacted bosch who then said that actually the bike is not compatible with the range extender and that we would need to contact Gazelle to ask for their advice.

This is the bike:

I just wondered if anybody might have managed to get this to work?

Thanks!

With Bosch, you always contact the bike manufacturer first. They will advise the service person and then cut a ticket with Bosch.

My guess is that Gazelle has to instruct Bosch to turn this functionality on in the service tool before your mechanic can enable it.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your help on this.

The man contacted Gazelle, who contacted Bosch. Bosch wrote back and asked me to promise never to put the range extender battery in the bottle cage (not sure why). I promised and then they activated it, so it is all working now.

Thank you very much. :)

It's absolutely brilliant thanks.

I'm doing something slightly unusual with it, because I am using it instead of the main battery.

The main battery was nearly 4kg and it was too heavy for me to carry into the house and was really weighing the bike down when I cycled.

I realise that that 4kg was just about 4% of the weight of the bike + me, but it felt like for me it was the straw that broke the camel's back. With the lighter battery, the bike is transformed and is just so much better. Although the weight is reduced by so little, the feel of the bike is like the weight had been reduced by half. I don't really understand why, but that is my subjective experience of it.

It's a bit complicated, but I explained it on this thread here: https://forums.electricbikereview.c...-be-as-smooth-as-eco.58153/page-2#post-691353

At my rate of motor use I would get:

200 miles range from the 625Wh + range extender.
130 miles from the 625Wh battery alone
about 70 miles from just the range extender.

I will really definitely never cycle more than about 10 miles a day, so this is really fine for me.

Anyway, I have got the battery working and now the bike is fantastic.
