Zen Samurai - Built in Canada - shipping since June 2022

@Ravi Kempaiah, no worries about not including extraneous measurements in the geometry chart. But, if you could share just the BB height either here or DM, that'd be awesome!

Can I leave a 200 deposit on a samurai step thru? And, how far off is step thru(roughly)?
might seem weird, but, to get a 1000 off a bike I know I will buy when available- seems smart.
This is the bike I am waiting for as well and would like to put some money down on a preorder.

@Ravi Kempaiah, those measurements for reach are correct? They seem awfully long. The other bikes (in my size) that I'm considering all have reach in the low 400's. I have short arms (and legs for that matter), so that measurement is always a concern.

This is precisely why I said offering too much details on dimensions/ specifications confuses people.
Every company measures 'reach' differently and in our case, we measure it from the center of the seatpost axis to the headtube axis.
Some companies measure the effective top-tube length as 'reach'.
As you can see from the picture below, a medium-size frame has about ~54.6cm length and it fits perfectly for someone who is 5ft 9" or 5ft 10".
Our business development specialist is 5ft 8" and the medium frame fits her well. I think I have made my point here.

Do you have recommendations based on rider height?

Yes, we are working on this beautiful chart that shows a correlation between the size of the frame and the size of the rider.
That should be uploaded by tonight. This is all people need actually. Most riders don't care about Rake, seat tube angle etc. They want the bike to fit comfortably and this will chart will help them make that decision.

Ah, Ravi, I see now in the bike image of the geo chart that your reach is indeed the effective top tube length. Reach is typically measured from the BB axis to the headtube axis. Now that I know that, I can effectively compare the Samurai's geo with those of other bikes. Thank you for the clarification, including the image of your business development specialist, another 5'8" rider. Extremely helpful! 👏

A draft of the rider size chart is updated and will go on the website shortly.
Because of the adjustable stem, rider fit (some people have long torso etc.) there might be a small variation but otherwise, this chart would be helpful for prospective Samurai riders.
If someone is on the border of two sizes, we recommend the smaller size of the two, because adjustable stem + suspension seatpost can be tuned to fit a slightly larger rider.
@coldriderwi, you may find this chart useful.

Thanks again for the geometry and size charts, @Ravi Kempaiah. Sounds like I should be safe with a Medium.

Now, some more questions:
  1. Will you release the video (and any additional info) before the 15th?
  2. We still have the option to choose the Rohloff (instead of the Kindernay that's been updated on the website)?
  3. The $200 deposit is refundable before delivery?
  4. Are sales to U.S. customers taxed?
  5. What is the shipping fee to the U.S.?

  1. The video is already released on our YouTube channel and I will try to post it here later today
  2. At this point, all our Rohloff shipments are sold out and I don't even know if we will receive additional Rohloff this year (with the war in EU affecting their supply chain)
Premium model with Kindernay VII options would be available quicker
  3. Yes, it is refundable unless the customer has asked for some specific customization that can't be passed onto the next customer
  4. No tax on US shipments
  5. We are subsidizing the shipping and the shipping cost varies from $100 to $200 depending on the location.
With fuel prices going sky high, it would be unsustainable for us to offer free shipping at this point.
The bike will be as close to fully assembled as possible
Hope this helps. Let me know if we can clarify anything else.

@Ravi Kempaiah my preorder was for a medium based on your recommendation. I'm 5'11" so it looks like I should be switching to a large.

I think you would be comfortable on a large frame.
Sorry, I suggested something else. With 32" inseam, at 5ft 11, large frame would be a good fit.
The good thing is, with an adjustable stem, there is a 2-3" tolerance on either side.

Yeah, I normally ride L from other manufacturers. Would you be able to update my pre-order to by a size L?

Yes, very helpful, Ravi.
  1. I've located your video on the base Samurai. Will be watching it shortly!
  2. I'm set on the Rohloff, so I'll just need to be patient.
  3. My only customizations would be the display and tires. Would they pose an issue?
  4. 👍
  5. I understand. Is the shipping box a custom one or one sourced from a vendor like BikeFlights?

We built our own custom shipping box. It is leaving the factory next week and should arrive here sometime in mid-April.

Done.

Check out the Shakti model.
That's essentially the same bike as I have now. Looking for a Mid-drive with all the quality componets of the Samurai with a throttle and step thru design. I know the step thru is scheduled to come out 4th quarter hopefully they add a throttle.
