I took my bike to the shop today, and they found three stress fractures on the rear wheel. The cracks were not deep enough to cause an air leak, but they were obvious to the naked eye. This freaked me out a bit. The wheel is stock from the factory, a Rodi Alloy 6063, 28", 622 X 19C. I have a basket on the back and frequently carry groceries and other items that can be 20 pounds or more. I occasionally pull a bike trailer.
The cost to replace the rear wheel (I don't know what brand they put on, it's plain black with no obvious markings), install a new chain, and grease the front axle was €120/$125.
