Yamaha PW-X Battery Problems

Hi gang,

I have a bike from 2018 with a Yamaha PW-X motor and externally mounted battery on the downtube. (BH Rebel Lynx)

The bike has served me well for 6000 miles. Recently, when charging, the battery does not take a charge, and after a few minutes will blink alternating the top and bottom two lights.

The charger is fine, it charges a second bike battery without issue.

I'm having trouble getting info on if my battery is broken, or if this can be fixed. I didn't drop the battery, it was working fine until it wasn't.

Thoughts?

Is this a similar fault Im not sure what E and F mean except empty full?

The battery pack protection
feature has been activated and
the system cannot be used.
Unplug the charger plug
and immediately cease
operation.

Thats the error code with just E and F, if both top and bottom pair blink per 2 it would be a charger contact issue.

Can you switch the system on on the bike? And what would the error code in the display be?

It's both the top two and bottom two lights that alternate blinking, so it is different from the picture you shared.

When I put the battery on the bike, whether it is on the charger or not, it seems to be working fine. I can use the display and motor controller normally. There is no error on the display.

Even when it is charging when the top two and bottom two lights start blinking, the display does not show an error code.

However the battery does not take a charge.

You need the Yamaha X94 service manual to access the error codes, Bill. Find a free copy of the manual on the 'net and download it. There, you will find all you are looking for.

Thanks Mike. Looks like I just have to clean the charging connectors. Anything special I should use for that? 90% isopropyl alcohol? How many miles do you have on your fatbike now?

I'll second @DaveMatthews suggestion of Deoxit. But I do question just how corroded these terminals really are. I highly doubt you are pedaling in a salt water environment nor leaving the charger and battery in a humid situation. Those battery terminals are well plated and require no lubrication whatsoever. Ditto to the charger. Let us know what comes of this.
