This is an interesting one. The first definition that popped up claims that most animal breeders still believe in it. Not in the western world.
It is known that the females of some species can store the sperm and so you might get a mixed batch of offspring from different fathers. That's different.

Anyway, there is more of interest...that there are things that can persist from former matings, on a chemical level....epigenetic effects on the genetic material, where a chemical wrap or attachment can change the functioning of a gene.
Epigenetic effects can come from many environmental influences, such as starvation or heavy diet or smoking and on and on.
