Wireless Earbuds for cycling

Thanks again for all the info. Very impressed with the regular-sized, non-Pro Shokx I got last week. "They just disappear" may be the best part.

Like you, I measure 9.5" but will try the Mini, as I'd like to be able to lay on my back with them. While I'm at it, will see if I like the Pro bass response better for an extra $50. What's one more consecutive life sentence in the doghouse?

Funny about the wind noise. Normally don't notice any but definitely did on my first Shokx test ride with a headwind. Tried again without the Shokx, and lo and behold, the same wind noise had been there all along! The Shokx made it neither better nor worse — the act of testing just brought it to my attention. And now it's unnoticeable again.

So I accidentally left my Shokz turned on yesterday after my ride and realized it this morning. It did not utilize an enormous amount of battery due to the oversight....but I realize now....the Shokz don't turn themselves off after a specific period of time whether connected or not. They just stay 'on'.
No biggie....but worth noting.

I've noticed that, too. Good thing the battery's pretty long-lived.

Also noticed that if I kill the audio or lose the Bluetooth connection while focused on something else, I often find them still on my head hours later. Like you said, they just disappear — kinda like a comfortable pair of glasses. Wonderful to have nothing in or over my ears.

Love my Jabra Elite buds. And I love either listening to music or a podcast as I cycle. I’m now just remembering the joy of listening to a radio station playing earth wind & fire. A hot evening in shorts T-shirt bombing along the camel trail in Cornwall on my wife’s Como 3.0. With a fish taco supper in the turbo basket from Rick steins fish & chip restaurant. Sheer bliss. Sorry got carried away.

Follow-up on Shokz OpenRun Pro bone conduction headphones: Still my favorite headphones of all time, but the [+] button for volume gets a lot of use, as it also toggles power with a firm press-and-hold. My [+] failed after about a year of roughly every other day use.

Submitted a claim on the 2-year warranty via the Shokz website and had a replacement in hand in under a week, including a new travel case and charging cable. They told me to keep the original.

The hardest part of the return was reading the TINY serial number in the charging port. Ended up using a headlamp and 14x hand lens.

Still unwilling to listen to audio while riding in car or pedestrian traffic but enjoy them on routes I have all to myself.

I don't want to hear other peoples' audio when I'm outside. Period.
Hmmm, not sure where you ride but the places where I ride there aren't many people around if any at all. I don't ride in public parks. When I'm riding on a busy street I don't think my music is going to be much of a distraction or annoyance as the the noise of loud cars. Again, don't blast it, just loud enough for you to hear it. Besides depending with what music you're playing, it makes for a nice 'audiblel' to let others know that you are coming up. Ahhh, the snivelers.

REI had a sale a couple weeks ago on Shokz with the OpenRun for $99 and the OpenRun Pro for $139. I decided to give it a try.
I purchased both the OpenRun and the OpenRun Pro in 'regular' size. My measurement is 9.5" and Shokz says that if you are 9.25" or > to go with regular size.

Long story short....I love the Shokz. The audio quality is not the best among my many choices, however, the ability to have music or podcast while riding and still hear my surroundings is game changing.
The Pro's imo are not worth the extra money....given that I am only using them outdoors and in windy environments....the modicum of superior sound quality from the otherwise identical Pro's is lost to the elements.
Never matter....I liked them so much in fact...that I returned the 'regular' size Shokz that I had purchased at REI and re-bought the OpenRun Mini size at Best Buy for full retail. The mini's are a better fit for my needs.

If one is an audiophile, you might quickly pass on these bone conduction ear-cans at first glance—and I wouldn’t have blamed you. Realistically, however, these Shokz provide the means for safe audio entertainment while jogging, cycling, walking the dog, etc., in a way I never thought imaginable. They are VERY low profile, have long battery life, are lightweight and comfy, provide adequate sound quality, and enable me to hear my surroundings at the same time. While reading user experiences on https://aliexpress.pissedconsumer.com/review.html, I noticed some skepticism, but these still stood out. Most importantly, I can literally forget I’m wearing them while cycling or walking—they just disappear. At very high speeds or on very windy days, I can sometimes drown out the Shokz with wind noise (after all, my ears are entirely unobstructed), but it just doesn’t matter.

All these years I had sought the most sound immersing high quality audio buds/cans only to find that these Shokz are a far better product for my uses 90% of the time. I'll save my more immersive in-ear buds with noise cancellation for the airplane or similar uses.

I wish that I had bought the Shokz sooner.
Looking for earbuds that work well for conference calls while cycling. I need something that can effectively minimize or eliminate wind noise so the person on the other end can hear me clearly. Any recommendations? 1/2 4o

I can't help you with this. I do use the Shokz when walking the dog and talking on the phone. I'd think it might be fruitless to expect to be able to cycle and be on conference without at least some wind (or other) noises transmitted.

I'll give an upvote for the Shokz too.

Usually I only wear them on quiet grade-separated bike paths and gravel roads. They do make long uphill grinds go much more quickly.

I love my Shokz and would replace them immediately if lost. I would not expect to be able to have a quiet conference call while biking and expect listeners to not hear wind noise

Same here. Unfortunately, most of my local hills and bikeways have too much traffic for that.

Just had a brilliant idea: I know from Peloton ads that they have video coaches to spur you on. How about a motivational audio app for real bike rides? You could choose a coach character to suit your psychology.

Mom: Look at you riding up that big hill so fast! I'm so proud of you!

Drill sargeant: What a wimp! That's the most pathetic performance I've ever seen. Pick up that pace, or there'll be a hundred push-ups waiting for you at the end!

Partner: If you average 15 mph on this ride, I'll have a nice surprise for you when you get home...

Any venture capitalists out there?
