Once a year, Chicago closes down its scenic Lake Shore Drive to automobiles, and cyclists can take over. The full loop is a 30 mile trip, with overpasses providing elevation. Thousands of riders come out.
We packed my wife's EG Maui 500 cruiser and my just completed BBS02 conversion onto a car carrier and went downtown.
Five minutes into the ride, I lost power. I swapped batteries between the two bikes. Battery seemed OK in my wife's bike. Put back into mine, it powered up for a few minutes and died again. Well, a BBS02 has a little resistance, but not much so I pedalled. I couldn't have done it last year, but I'm in better shape this year. We packed it in after 20 miles. My wife had never gone more than 8 miles on a regular bike on this ride, but with pedal assist, she says she could have done all 26. Most of the time, she was waiting on this old man.
When I got home. I took another look at my dolphin battery. Ha. The hex nut around the battery connector had spun off, so the connector had fallen off the pins in the cradle. If I had brought a small multimeter, one look at the connector would had revealed the problem. Oh well, I got some exercise and it was a beautiful morning.
Did not notice any other e-bikes.
