Whew. Glad my bike is easy to pedal.

Once a year, Chicago closes down its scenic Lake Shore Drive to automobiles, and cyclists can take over. The full loop is a 30 mile trip, with overpasses providing elevation. Thousands of riders come out.

We packed my wife's EG Maui 500 cruiser and my just completed BBS02 conversion onto a car carrier and went downtown.

Five minutes into the ride, I lost power. I swapped batteries between the two bikes. Battery seemed OK in my wife's bike. Put back into mine, it powered up for a few minutes and died again. Well, a BBS02 has a little resistance, but not much so I pedalled. I couldn't have done it last year, but I'm in better shape this year. We packed it in after 20 miles. My wife had never gone more than 8 miles on a regular bike on this ride, but with pedal assist, she says she could have done all 26. Most of the time, she was waiting on this old man.

When I got home. I took another look at my dolphin battery. Ha. The hex nut around the battery connector had spun off, so the connector had fallen off the pins in the cradle. If I had brought a small multimeter, one look at the connector would had revealed the problem. Oh well, I got some exercise and it was a beautiful morning.

Did not notice any other e-bikes.

Ohhh man!!! What a great anecdote though! You answered my question too, I was going to ask if you saw any ebikes. Shame...

I saw two one trek low step with mid drive & another I don't remember, but looked like a front hub drive with a grey frame & gold or wood flat fenders. Kozy's cyclery brought out about a dozen ebikes for their tent. They're a normal bike shop, but only had ebikes there. According to them they're selling even though we had the only local dedicated ebike shop (alt cycle shop) & rental business (wander bikes) closing last year.

Edit: I think I saw a Sondors or two too.

@harryS Looks great! I am born and raised in Chicago and only got to ride LSD without cars when they closed it down for the late ride many years back (and it was only a partial closure) That is when I used to ride a lot with friends and family, took some time off from riding but recently got back into it when I got my 1st eBike from kozy! lol

I look forward to cruising me eBike on LSD next time they close! Thanks for sharing as I totally forgot Chicago did cool stuff like that haha

@youth I did not do too much research into local eBike shops and came across Kozy, but glad to know Chicago has a dedicated eBike shop, where is your shop located? Thanks!
