What's your dream ebike?

Light. I want to be able to pick it up, and use a regular bike to transport.
Somewhat Upright riding position
I want to feel me energy going into the bike as speed and motion. If I didn’t care about that, I’d get a scooter.
That being said, a throttle would be nice to get across some of our local 6 lane intersections.

my ideal:
-carbon fiber frame
-endurance bike geometry
-carbon fiber fork
-eyelets throughout
-drop-bar
-dropper post
-hydraulic brakes (180mm front, 160 rear)
-1X12 gears
-Brose motor (I rode this once and liked the power delivery the best) w/torque sensor
-real life 100+mile range
-<30lbs.
-thru-axles front/rear
-carbon hoops built tough
-di2
-droid/iphone compatible (most people have a really powerful phone, so those should be leveraged)
-racks/fenders front/rear (optional)
-lights front/rear (optional and high powered)
-35mm+ tires

Q- Upon what maximum price would you be willing to make a purchase for an ebike as such ?

I like yor choice and I would add Gps, Airbags (one inside a big stem) a bunch of electronic stuff, compass, map, lights, sirens,
The whole cockpit basically as an airplane- One mini ipad in center and lots of other dupsly left and right. For tire pressure, atmospheric conditions, wind speed, etc...

And a LITHIUM AIR OR LITHIUM SULPHUR battery. Those will be 1000%-5000% more efficnet then Lion. About 5-7years from now.

I would happily divorce? from a max. Of 9grand of my hard earned money for a big toy like that !

Maybe 11k if it has 10year warranty for everything and replaced w/o 3business days in case of theft.

maybe be willing to pay $8-9k? it'd take some convincing of my significant other :D i think at that point, it has to be viewed and treated as an imperfect car substitute. i've fantasized of the idea of doing a kickstarter. however i think carbon molds are $50-100k soooo...

you are going for the whole shabang! i used to ride a motorcycle with a blow-up vest called Hit-Air. so i appreciate the safety. Helite is designing a blow-up vest for cyclists and it should be available soon...i really like the idea of using people's own phones. current displays out strike me as outdated, clunky, duplicative etc. some of these functions you described might already be available in an app!

i have no expertise in batteries, but that's exciting to hear they could experience that growth! that's a pretty big prediction, is this based on a Moore's law equivalent?

  • Reliability above all else – especially motor and gears.
  • Credibility – the ebike must live up to the maker's claims.
  • Easy mount / dismount - strep-through frame, presumably.
  • Both feet on road at intersections - dropper post, please.
  • Road / trail-oriented full suspension.
  • Striking design – no need to pretend it's a traditional bike.
  • Electronic gear-shifting.
  • Integrated rear rack + quality handlebar bag.
  • Long-range battery.
  • Advanced ebike computer system to display and record ride info.
  • Front & rear lights.
  • Mudguards – a more appropriate word than 'fenders' where I ride!
  • Puncture-resistant tyres.
  • Safe to leave unattended – won't fall over (double-leg centre kickstand?); integrated locking system (in addition to cable or chain) to rival that on motorcycles.
  • A joy to behold and a delight to ride.
... David
David, that sounds like my BMW motorcycle.

Titanium trekking anyone? This is a pretty bike. Weird though the website doesn't say anything in the specs about the motor and battery. Perhaps a brand new offering:

i like your tastes. i actually have a Spot Rocker with an Alfine 8 on the rear. i never got around to putting a Gates belt on it, but it has the split for it. i've been eyeing the Pinion drives and there is one out now called Priority 600 that goes for $2200. you could put a hub motor on the rear. Pinion has been working on a e version for at least a couple years now.

I wouldn't pay more thant $5k for the "perfect ebike. I can already get my dream motor scooter for $4k.
If I dreamed of motorcycles (I don't!), I'd certainly find room for a Honda Super Cub alongside my Honda Gold Wing (matching colours, of course).

And I'd enjoy owning and riding both.

That's cool. Love my Spot Champa with the Alfine 8. After buying it, I completely outfitted it with fenders (PDW), a rack, a dynamo and lighting, Brooks saddle, Bontrager tires, pedals, bars with a riser stem and probably some things I'm forgetting ... Spot though doesn't seem to be continuing their steel frame city bike lines like the Champa and Wazee. Must not have sold very well. I guess they are more known for mountain bikes.

that's too bad. they are known for mtb-i think their founder cofounded avid? I would be interested to see an e-mtb from them given their Gates history.
