What rear rack are you using?

My Giant Roam e+ measures 7" between the threaded mounting lugs on the chainstay above the rear axle, so about an inch and a bit wider (or more) than any of the racks I've used on my non-e bikes in the past. I'm hesitant to buy a generic one and bend the struts out enough to fit since they're pretty flimsy welded aluminum - seems like that would add a spring load to the rack that would be a recipe for failure.

I mainly want it so I can hang my pannier bag on it and carry groceries home. I've searched pretty extensively and am not finding much. Giant doesn't even list one on their site for my bike. So what rack are you all using?

Haibike Full FatSix that I outfitted with Old Man Mountain Fat Sherpa front and rear racks. Provided your Giant has a thru-axle, the genius of the OMM rack is that it uses a Robert Axle Project specially-made thru axle for the OMM rack system. The upper rack stays that attach to your frame simply helps to stabilize the rack; the bottom rack stays that attach to the thru axle take all of the weight.

Lotsa people will complain about the cost of the rack and thru axle that comes with it, but it's the best designed, best built rack on the market that's built for the long term. They have a fitment feature but you can also give them a call for help. Good people to deal with. Link: https://oldmanmountain.com/

Good tip - thanks! I checked out their site - looks like very solid, high quality gear. Unfortunately, my Roam comes with traditional skewer axles, so I don't think this will work.

Pics would help show what you've got. The OMM will not work as it's dependent on the thru-axle for mounting the rack.

Surly makes a solid, tough rear rack. Link: https://surlybikes.com/parts/rear_rack

Back when I installed it on both the front and rear of my Specialized Fatboy, they called this rear rack the "Surly Nice Rack", take that for what it's worth. Provided you have upper and threaded eyelets in your seat stays, this rack should be the ticket. The rack itself is powdercoated steel and it uses some nice stainless steel hardware to mount the rack to the frame. Here's a pic of that Surly Nice rear rack mounted on the Fatboy:

The lower stainless steel rack mount stays have the ability to slide up, into the lower rack stay, so you can fine tune the fitment. Note the way I mounted the Surly top rack mount stays.....I used a seat post clamp that comes with threaded bosses to accept the stainless top rack stays. You can pretty much find this style seat post clamp anywhere. I picked up mine from a business called Problem Solvers.

I wanted a full touring capable fatbike, so with the rear rack in place, I set about with the front rack. I used the same Surly rear rack (note: Surly does make a front-specific rack, but I liked that rear rack design, better). The front rack would support a dyno-hub powered light, while the rear rack had a mounted dyno powered tail light. Here are all the components, minus the hub, and minus a two part paint on the light mounts. The original Fatboy fork was carbon fiber, but I utilized a Fatboy aluminum fork which accepted threaded eyelets from which the rack stays were mounted......

End product, front and rear racks, dyno hub lighting system, complete Ortlieb bag system for front and rear racks.....even trips to the local supermarket if needed. This Fatboy is a 2015 model, which used rack skewers, like your Giant. Hope this helps!

Wow - nice setup! That's a burly looking rack, too - looks like it'd work fine on my Giant. And if I can't pick up the threaded seat stay mounting lugs I could go with the seat post clamp chingas that you recommended. Good find. Thanks for sharing all the info and pics - really helpful.

My e-bike has pretty wide dropouts, so a "standard" road rack didn't fit. I purchased the Ibera Carrier Plus+. It was plenty wide for me (8" according to their product listing). It came with plastic spacers for attachment that were too long, so I used some from an old set of brakes. The brake spacers also helped because the lugs are at a bit of an angle.

I haven't tested heavy loads yet, but the rack has worked fine for a few rides with a pannier. The rack doesn't feel as nice as some of the more expensive ones, but I think it got the job done. So I'm pretty happy with it.

Nice. Good tip. That may be a winner. Thanks!
