What is this button for on my wifes new e bike? its a vitesse wave e assist dutch style bike and this button light is opposite side to charge point?

It might relate to charging the bike. Does it turn on while charging and then shut off to indicate the battery is charged?
Do you have an owners manual? Maybe look for something on YouTube.

No it comes on if you push the button or move the bike but seems to stay on for hours after you've parked up?
 
@Gionnirocket, This the worst bike that I have seen to date. To remove the battery: 1) Remove chainguard, 2) Remove crank arms, 3) Remove bottom bracket, 4) Remove cover plate, 5) Disconnect from controller, 6) Pull down wire. It is a 250W hub single speed. As far a I can tell, there is no user's manual. The build quality won't last one season.

So yet another need for an ejector seat 🙃
 
So i poked around a little bit to see what I could find. Nothing. They do seem proud of their walk-assist mode though. No idea if that's what the button is for but maybe.... If you press the button again does the light go off? It seems like an odd place for a button.
