weather forecast

Cool sign. Maybe not Mark Twain... anyone who has visited San Francisco and gets fogged in... :)
I grew up south of SF and when the fog came in the temps seem to drop 20 degrees and damp. I knew it was time to stick close to somewhere warm.
We spent a few days in Sonoma one summer. The day we left, it was over 80F in Sonoma. We stopped by Fisherman’s Wharf before heading to the airport, and it was foggy and in the 40’s there. That was quite a shock to us Washingtonians in our shorts and t-shirts!

He is alleged to have said the same thing about Bellingham. This year, our strawberries were abundant and beautiful, but flavorless due to absence of sunny warmth from April through June.
Cool nights and mornings slow down the ripening of grapes (and pot) increasing the intensity of flavors. Instead of just a fast veg grow they mature and ripen slowly. I guess that is not the case with strawberries or tomatoes.

That is why there are more SF hoodies. There really can be a huge temp change between inland and the fog belt. 120F in Sacramento can be 61 at the headlands and 82 in Sonoma and 100 in Healdsburg.

That's what makes Ca so special. Where I lived you could ride South on the coast Hwy at a damp 60 degrees, ride down the valley and and a hot 90+ or up into the National forest where it is in between.
Other areas not so much. Bakersfield has always been hot on hot. North to Redwood City is mostly cool and damp and absolutely beautiful, but I could never ride that far.
I live in the SE now and I don't really notice the weather so mush as I do cars unless I haul it to a trail.
We are lucky to have so many places in so many states we can go out and enjoy the beauty. That's what makes two wheeling so special for everyone.

enjoy the beauty
There are a couple of parks close by, a ridable distance. One of them has five micro-climates in a mile walk. It is Jack London State Park. It is on the leeward side of Mt. Sonoma. At the flats it is warm and dry, but higher up dripping redwood forests. The other is connected and beautiful to ride. N. Sonoma Mtn. Regional Park.

On the other hand my Grandfather always used to say around this time of year "When the days begin to lengthen the cold begins to strengthen"

I lived over half of my life in snow country and quite frankly don't miss it a bit, although the rain here can be a bit much at times also. Can't take summer heat however so southern climes don't suit me.

In the alternate universe Northern CA it will be different. We are doing an early Solstice ride to a place that has simple N. American food that is supper fresh and organic with craft beers on tap and outdoor seating so we can watch the bikes. I might do a grass fed burger with local cheddar and a dark beer with a creamy head.

Frozen tater tots for me. :(

Right now I'm sitting inside by a fire sipping hot tea.

Although earlier on I was in the teeth of it:

After the ski I went and got groceries and passed some poor SOB commuting to work in a fat tire bike.

Paul Bunyan couldn't finish that. He would go home defeated. It is 75mm thick of pure calories. The sauce that goes on top is not gravy, but spicy salsa. I had to give up at about 1/3rd. The melted fresh cheese stretches from the plate all the way to your mouth.

Weather report is one my favorite segment for 6 o'clock news we have some of the finest ladies doing the reporting (no they are not wearing scanty clothes like those Latin reporters).
They been out and about reporting damages caused by fallen trees.
Weather hasn't improved since Sunday, heavy rains and 25 mph winds with 50 mph gust. They forecasted that today afternoon, sunshine will peek through the clouds with passing rain throughout the Islands.

Compared to elsewhere in BC or Alberta, it’s balmy here in the Kootenays. Have about 50 cm on the ground and then 20cm of the most amazing, fluffy snow that is best cleared with a leaf blower!

A big one is headed to the Mid-West and North-Eastern lower 48. Gulls have moved into my town from the coast in large numbers and crows have gathered in large flocks called murders. It is like The Birds, which was filmed 20 miles away in the town of Bodega. Here it is very weird at the Winter Solstice we have September and April at the same time. We have both dandelions popping up and falling leaves. This is from today.
