Want new tires for 700

Stock tires on my 700 don't hold well on slopes or gravel. Hope to change to Maxxis Ardent, same size, lots of knobs. Any one else running different tires? Any suggestions?

Someone posted that they put some 2.6" tires on their 700 and posted these pictures.
