Vado SL RE Battery - how new is new?

Just bought a "new" RE battery from my local Specialized Concept store.
When I got home I realised the packaging said Production Date 16 Jan 2023 ? Thats nearly two and a half years old. I am planning on returning it. Any views ?

Depends on the price. The last years the battery cells are much better at holding their charge and when the battery has been stored in shipping mode it should still be in very good shape of not at 99,xx%

So it relies on your trust in the shops after sales service and warranty.

We did purchase 2 new old stock vado sl's for a bargain price at a shop with a good track record (and personal dealer contact) and these were from production 22 and 23. Both batteries are at 100% capaciteit. I charge mine after 140km riding and there is usually some juice left.

Li-Ion batteries are stored in "hibernated" state and become activated on first use, that is, on first charging. No worries, my first Vado battery was 2 years old when I bought the e-bike and it served for the next four years.
