Ultra programming

I found a deal and changed to a 750C, but not the blue tooth version. Change was made for it's ability to display wattage in use much more clearly than the DPC18 is able to. Wanted that clarity for tuning purposes, to see exactly how much power I'm using and when it's coming on which it does on a level that's head and shoulders better than DPC18. I also am used to having that info available on my old bike, and use it when making decisions regarding what gear I'm using as well as PAS level.

Other than that, I like the horizontal display better, and for the side by side speedo and watt meter. Reminds me of my muscle car and motorcycle days with side by side speedo and tach. Trip meter much simpler to reset by just pushing down on the up and down buttons.

Downside is that the clock is not reliable (due to an internal CMOS battery that's not replaceable), and my headlight no longer turns on when driving into the garage -Al

In my case, I refuse to carry a phone (long boring story). That would be my first reason! Second would be as mentioned, I want to see how many watts are in use at any given time.

A great display for a committed user. Be prepared to update firmware, and for some a steep learning curve. I've supported and ridden BBSxx series motors since 2014. I run EM3ev settings and have never needed to change anything. I see customers every week that don't follow solidly reviewed parameters and cook their controllers.

It’s ready and is updated. In my view sellers ought to vet users. Buyers need to be comfortable with flashing firmware and have somewhat advanced computer skills. Changing settings on a ride is just not something I’m interested in.

I started to reply to Toms post some time ago but binned as i didn't want to appear to be at odds with a genuinely esteemed member of the entire ebike community, if you have gone on a custom ebike journey Toms name is always there with the wisdom, and on behalf of self builders i would like to thank you.

Where i diverge really is on bs points; Aesthetics and usage.

I think the eggrider is for any user really, a factor for me considering it was its minimalism and good usage of the screen real estate, contrary to AHicks assertion it does show power in either watts or amps, also range etc. This minimalism leads to a cleaner bar, i dislike clutter on my bar. I do program with it, mainly tweaking PAS, to get my own riding style and needs baked in. With that said this is where i'm totally with Tom, if you don't have the time or capacity to ingest the whole programming journey across all the BBSXX fora (forums ;p) then don't try it, there are no shortcuts.

Back to the eggrider. Pretty much everything digital that i own has to have updates, whether thats mixers, speakers etc or personal digital devices, its what modern technology demands, in this sense the eggrider is no different, this is not down to eggrider deficiencies necessarily but due to the fact it integrates into a phone via an app. If you're au fait with firmware updates on other devices this is no different, but you won't need to as they are shipped with current fw. What i don't like is the material it is made of, this i believe is a design fault; The plastic is too brittle. Mines cracked this week, it wasn't over tight nor bashed infact i have no idea what has happened i went to go for a ride and it was a little slack had a look and it was cracked across the section that grips the bar, i can fix it but its holding in place for the moment, better plastic is needed for future iterations.

Would i buy again? Probably.

Sorry to say this tom but its a generational thing i think, your era was probably engines, mine and the generations under it is electronics and digital stuff. Did you tinker with engines?

A total airhead! Numerous hot rod VW air cooled. Last sold funded a long African plant adventure. As muddle age settles in my ability to parse all the newest gear eludes me. Shop is adding Ultra products but I’m stepping back as I have zero curiosity and zero experience there.

I'm fine with firmware updates an usual pick up new tech easily. I'm always amazed at how many people have all the latest gadgets yet don't have a clue how to use them and basically get by with utilizing 20% of its abilities.
We differ a bit as I have a giant 860c display sitting over the top of my stem... if it only got Netflix
I don't think I would use the eggrider continuously but it would be nice to implement with a phone and gather some stats and tweak settings on the fly. Too bad they don't make a sans display version that could be used solely for phone link paralleled to my current display.
Anywho if I find a few dollars burning a hole in my pocket I might go for it. Good to know that most of the bad reviews are probably due to a loose nut behind the handlebars.

I'm from that bridge generation, i classify it as Gen XY, the first digital generation, my brothers are Gen X, engines and analogue. We learned BASIC, typed programs in manually, used BBS, built the internet (not this weird s*it we have now, part shopping mall part propaganda tool) so of course we will tinker

What I love about the EggRider:
1) Small control, basically the size of a non-display Bafang keybard, but it has a display.
2) Connects to my phone. I mount my phone front and center on my handlebars, and now my phone is not only the display, but it's also running RideWithGPS to tell me when to turn and to record my ride for sharing with photos, etc.
3) It makes it easy to adjust Bafang settings. I went to 10 levels (9 of assist) and lowered the max assist on the lower levels so I can run at level 1 or 2 and get a good workout, or run up to 3-4 to take it easy, with 5-7 for hills, and 8-9 for all-out speed.
4) Even if you don't use your phone on the bike, it stores summary trip information that you can look at later on your phone.

What I don't love:
1) The +/- rocker on mine got a little sticky and the "-" didn't work intermittently. I used some contact cleaner and that seemed to fix it.
2) If you're older like me, the display can be hard to read if you're not using your phone.

Sticky buttons and cracked plastic doesn't sound encouraging on build quality for a product that will be moving at 15+mph in weather.
And contact cleaner should have a hard time entering buttons on a IP65 device unless you disassembled it.
Add I have the same don't love #2... Maybe I'll wait for version 3.0

I don't think they're ever going to go with a larger form factor since they have the phone connection. I view the built-in screen it has a fall back to make it usable for the basic functionality (speed, battery %, and PAS level) when a phone isn't connected. I wouldn't want a bigger screen since that would make the unit itself bigger.

You don't need your phone to use it, you can leave it at home if you want. I take mine and put it in my pocket where it stays data logging, even if i didnt have it with me it would sync the ride data later when reconnected.

This is why i like it;

Yes I realize that you don't need your phone... and now we're back to the display being too small for my tired eyes with less info than my 860c plasma display.
Clean bar is nice... but big bright pretty colors is nicer'r
