troubleshooting new Wahoo Bolt with new Liv Thrive +

Hello. I’m posting here, bc I’m wondering if my troubleshooting might be specific to my bike.
I did my first ride with my Thrive and Bolt.
The route is 31.48 km with 354m elevation.
I used only the Bolt - did not have the Giant app open.
As I finished, the Bolt read only 17.74km & speeds were all inaccurate too, by the same ratio.
The Bolt sent the inaccurate distance and speed data to Strava - BUT I could see from the Strava map that the entire route was successfully plotted and all the other analytics are accurate…including elevation, cadence, moving time.
I am really miffed.
curious eh ?
Anyone have any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance !!
If it ever stops raining I‘ll do another ride, to see if this was just a fluke.

With Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt you go to Sensors in the ELEMNT Companion App, click your E-Bike there and set the Wheel Circumference.
I assume you have connected your Thrive+ to the Wahoo Bolt?

Yes, it is connected. I do not recall seeing the circumference prompt, but will go back in to see.
It was displaying accurate speeds while riding, (but not average speed calculated at the end).
I assumed it got distance from either the bike or gps. Good to know.
I also assume the companion app does not need to be open during the entire ride - Is this also inaccurate ?
(I did have it open during both rides just in case, but there’s a chance my battery saving feature might have paused it part way through).

Also, yesterday, I went for a 12 km ride. The Bolt thought it was 44km, curiously, the sum of my 32 km and 12 km rides.
So the bolt has two rides recorded & says I’ve gone 66 km.

Thanks for your time Stefan !

There is no prompt. You have to go to the Sensor and actually make your own choice; either from the preset wheel size list or by your own judgement. I typically "calibrate" the Wheel Circumference against Strava "Correct Distance"/"Revert Distance" until the Wahoo distance readout perfectly matches Strava distance data.

(but not average speed calculated at the end).
Well. I had no issue with that.

There may be a glitch in Wahoo. Once you have started the bike computer, please go to the "Map" data screen and make sure the GPS has been acquired (Lack of the "Acquiring GPS" message). The distance data taken from a properly calibrated e-bike are correct in Wahoo. However, services such as Strava take the distance from the recorded GPS map! I have owned three different Wahoo models. It takes the latest ELEMNT Roam v2 a long time to get the first GPS fix, which might lead to wrong reported distance data.

I also assume the companion app does not need to be open during the entire ride - Is this also inaccurate ?
You can safely ride without the app. Wahoo ELEMNT is an autonomous device.

Also, yesterday, I went for a 12 km ride. The Bolt thought it was 44km, curiously, the sum of my 32 km and 12 km rides.

I cannot understand that. Post any ride, I Pause then Stop the Ride. At that moment the ride has been recorded and the Wahoo is reset for the next ride.

I have owned the Bolt v2 and was very happy with it, only I disliked the small display size.
