Trek is now the U.S. market leader in e-bikes ...

I tried 3 types of panniers and they all fit so that is no problem. Tomorrow I will try to squeeze a rear rack bag on top of a pair of panniers and take them on a some trails.
Man! I REALLY like the way the battery is integrated. I'd love a frame that fit a Reention pack (higher quality Hailong Shark pack clone) like that!
 
I'm glad to hear there's an alternative to Pedego as far as building a dealer network like that. Nothing against Pedego. I just think that mass adoption will not be built on the online sales model.
 
Within 50 miles of where I live we have both Trek(Electra) and Specialized dealers.

Dealers are very good here and nice to be on a first name basis for questions etc.

Dealers tell me that sales in electric bikes are doubling for them compared to previous years
 
Those racks types have always appeared kind of weak to me

The rack is slightly shorter from the top to the bottom triangles than other racks. In this case I will use the Axiom P25 twin panniers which seem to fit this rack perfectly and no trunk bag. I could not get the top part of the rack to work with my velcro trunk bags as the fender protrudes above the top of the rack so it will not fit tightly. OK now off I go.

This is a nice bike. After 50 miles I have found no weaknessess that would stop me from buying this bike for roads and hardpack trails. The regular Performance motor may possibly be a tad louder than my CX but it is quieter than many bikes out there. Since this bike has no suspension and is lighter than mine, I found it pulled strongly up hills...no discernable difference . I noticed that I could sustain this bike on the flats at 20kmh with the motor off . Not bad if you get into trouble. If it were my bike I would add a suspension seatpost and maybe a softer seat. Personally I prefer a hardtail like the slightly heavier Powerfly 5 but with no front suspension the 2.4 " tires do help a lot compared to a regular road bike. The shorter frame and bars make the bike more manageable than my Charger when loading in/out elevators or onto the Skytrain etc. I would venture to load this bike(minus battery) onto the front of a city bus ,which is something I would not consider with my Charger. All in all a smooth solid bike that is a privilege to ride.

how much weight are they rated for?
I do not know ...it says the bike is rated to 300 lbs but no mention of the rack. I guess Trek does not intend this bike to be a touring bike and the rack could certainly be bigger, but it felt totally solid with about 20 kg of stuff inside the panniers ...Abus D lock , spare battery , thermos ,food, tools etc ....no fender rattles either. However If you look at the last picture you can see that the twin panniers actually rest on the fender (which is solidly connected to the rack) and seems unusual ,so I would want not go crazy overloading it.

A dealer in my town told me today eBike sales are outnumbering analog sales this summer. Every time I ride I spend most of my time answering eBike questions and recommending bikes which I don't like doing.
