Torque vs cadence sensor...

It's an off line copy and the server is not working for endless sphere so I can only see the 1st page. Pretty long thread so I would like to skip more to the end.

It must be something with my phone. I'll check it on my lap top later tonight. It didn't sound good to begin with but at the end of the page started to sound like it had some encouraging news. Thanks for posting that.

I don't think the lack of programming would be a deal breaker for me but don't want to deal with motor problems though the steel gear should sort out the problem.
In (that link to) the video it sounded like Luna talked bafang into the steel gear and now luna offer nylon or plastic one themselves.

The guy in the video tried to sell his e-bikes, fair enough. As you understand the difference between the Fender and the SX, that's the same difference between a class e-MTB and Luna :) Of course, Lar has his choice (and the budget). I'm even not trying to convince him. (For $3xxx, you can get full-suspension Giant Stance E+ 2 2021, and that's a proper e-MTB in this price segment).
Having broke two different name brand mtb frames (@ 175lbs) I've come to believe it's all chinese made junk. You got to pay to play...

Plastic Luna gear is for the BBSxx I beleive. I asked specifically regarding a plastic gear for the Ultra and there isn't one. The plastic gears are more about the earlier versions of both the 600 and Ultra, both since have gone to metal. From what I've been able to uncover, the reason was way more about anticipated problems with the plastic gear than it was with actual failures.... -Al

Sounds right now that you mention it.. Did you watch that one luna video from the link on page one? Interesting..

The frame has a ten year warranty which that's one concern solved given my track record. The bafang warranty sounds reasonable and if I'm outside that's time frame the motor and whole system can be replaced for around $600 not including battery.

Funny that Electric Mountain Bike Network never mentioned Luna. It reminds me of some American bassists who claimed a Chinese $200 SX bass was better than the Fender Precision Bass that cost ten times more... There is something Luna will never get: reputation. Mountain biking is not about 2 kW of power or a throttle. It is not about the speed either. For reference, check the latest Orbea Rise e-MTBs with the new Shimano EP8 RS (low torque) motor. These cost well over ten grand bucks. Not without reason.
On the previous Luna X1 Enduro vs Specialized Levo comparison/video. Well obviously its sponsored by Luna so take that for what its worth. That being said, the guy doing the review has bought several specialized ebikes for his own use, so that something to consider given that he could easily get a luna bike.

Luna has always seemed to have a fascination in comparing to the specialized bikes, they have had to take down some videos due to threats from specialized.

That being said, EMBN is by no means a 'neutral' source of information. Its obvious what their agenda is(propaganda for the big manufacturers). I still like and watch all their videos

I doubt EMBN would ever feature Luna since they are not one of the big european brands. Luna also has quite alot of history bashing big manufacturers and pushing their own products sometimes with deceptive advertising. They have been kicked out many ebike forums including this one (or so I have heard). You can see it in the face-eyes of the owner when he does videos sometimes.

I do like Luna batteries though

Luna seems to cater to the underground hotrodder mentality (not that there is anything wrong with that)

It is very hard to compare Luna to the Holy Grail of e-MTBs, the Levo. Orbea has made an impressive effort to be better (or at least lighter) than the highly acclaimed Levo SL. There are so many premium e-MTB brands. None of them puts either a 2 kW motor or a throttle on them; that's not only against the spirit of mountain biking; this is just a silly thing to do.

Ah Luna, we hardly knew ye. Back, way back ( like three months ) I was so taken with many things Luna. I'd still drop my credit card in a hot minute for an Apollo. But ... Luna has seemingly left the planet. Not sure if Eric is actually FROM this planet. Will they ever come back? Will Eric ever be seen or heard from again? Did he make such a pile of FU money that he could not care less what the ebike world might think? Will we ever know? alas .....

And Stefan, I see your 'like' up there. Don't try and fool us. You never read one of Crazy Carl's articles in you life ! Or even perused Luna's website.

Focus tried something with the Jam2 back in 2018 offering a 3xx wh battery in what was the lightest ebike at the time and easily attachable range extenders.

I actually ordered one on black friday 2018 sale but then cancelled the order. 2 weeks later, focus pulled out the us ebike market. Close call.

If I lived in the US, I would pay a close attention to YT Decoy. Not that they are cheap.

Care to elaborate on it? I had a look at the Luna website and didn't like it.
Well that is because you are an intelligent evolved man. I was a silly noob and easily duped. But even I saw through the whole thing in a couple weeks. The tragedy of it all is that Luna had broken ground ... unknown ... unexplored. And then it all went to pot about the time Covid hit. We do not know if Covid sent Luna into spasms, catharsis and then oblivion ... or what. And it drives some nuts. Have you looked at the Apollo? Not really your kind of bike but it was a wonderful machine. Perfect almost from the perspective of many.

"No Bafang e-bike ever even stood close to e-MTB" 😄
It's a different world over here Stefan. As it should be. We don't have a European Commission running our lives. And I must admit of all Europe, Poland seems to be flanking Britain in efforts to break free. Anyway, in these new times, in which ebikes are in their infancy, nobody knows how it will shake out. I doubt if the Eurobike industry will win out here. Americans will go their own way. It probably will not be Bafang. I suspect that right now, engineers are already developing many new things in the ebike world. I agree with you that ebikes should not be electric motorcycles. That is, and shall remain, a separate category. Just because we desire throttles on our bikes does not mean we want our bikes to be motorcycles or scooters. You all go your way. We will go ours. Nothing wrong with that. It's always been that way.

I don’t think everyone in the U.S. of A agrees with you. I personally prefer the refinement, light weight, and more natural feel of the “big four“ mid-drives over Bafang. There’s no comparison in my opinion. I also do not need or want a throttle on my eBike. It’s nice to have options for sure though!

I can hardly agree to anything in this post. From "European Commission running our lives" through "Poland willing to break free from EU and flanking Britain in it" to the e-bike matters. In the latter matters, I just support the thoughts of McCorby. In the former, I don't intend to derail this thread.

Well of course not. We throttle jocks are a minority for sure. But we think we are independent and think for ourselves. I also think our ranks are growing.

I think you can add Tongsheng tsdz2 to the "big four". The torque sensor power delivery is at least as smooth as my Yamaha PW-SE, actually smoother in the highest settings, similar power, maybe quieter than the Yamaha and has a throttle option. Very easy installation. I'm totally impressed so far.
