Too many threads lately, lots of new eriders

EBR is destined to become the sub-2000 dollar e-bike meeting place for the US market.

Nothing wrong with the low end bikes. I’m a fan of cheap but good. It’s just that those bikes aren’t available in my locale.
The I want something "great" for nothing mentality. It never works out well because inevitably a sub $2K bike isn't good, just cheap.

The world would be a better place right now if instead of rioting and looting and burning stuff down to vent frustrations, if those people with nothing better to do than that, would come to this forum and read the threads and comment away, or even better go ride a bike to let off some steam, or maybe even buy an Ebike. All peaceful citizens welcome to post here at EBR and spend all the time reading that their little heart desires. No such thing as too many posts if it creates some diversion during lockdowns or helps someone mentally get through this extreme unemployment. Crazy times here these days. JMHO.

This would be a better place if posters would avoid politically charged hot topics. Your avoiding posting the first lines and started with, ALL PEACEFUL CITIZENS. From there on I applaud your post!

i was not here for 4-5days and wooow , about 15-20threads that i Must read... well , little by little for next week. there are some new ebikes coming out, GREYP is launching in US.
That one is probably the most advanced ebike as of right now.

The American are in mass a motor nation. All those coal rollers etc. The thinking is "give me a powerful motor, a throttle, and I'll conquer the world!"

-the roads are really long here in order to get to places of interest . some drivers are very much in a rush and neurotic. the bad foods, bad movies, negative news ...texting while driving
i have same mindset as you , as i am european, been living for 20+years here.

Earlier today i was @29-30mph for the whole 14-15ride that just gets me to the main ride.
The speed limit is 35mph, few drivers are doing whatever they like... my ebike does get a lot of respect on the road b/c is very fast ! here most drivers go nuts when they have to wait behind a cyclist.
For me An 18mph limited ebike in US can go directly to scrapyard . Luckily we have class 2/3.
I speak mostly for my interactions and experiences regarding Nj/Ny area drivers. I'm sure in other states is different.

I can ride 30+ mph also yet very seldom choose to. A big part of that is that I ride a heavily laden bike the majority of the time. Riding a light bike 25-30 mph is easily doable and fun, but bicycle frames and components aren't meant to take those stresses when used for more than day rides. And why have a bike that needs a license and that you can't carry anything along? I would like to see more 25 mph avenues that ebikes can take the lane without drivers being able to legally pass. Riding at 35 mph is not safe for riders that's why they are restricted to doing so on roads, and in traffic. Do you think antagonizing operators of multi-thousand-pound vehicles a good idea, remember as you pointed out... this is America. There's also the fact that the faster you go the shorter the range... I like knowing I can ride for 12 or more hours daily averaging 10-15 mph. Ask your girlfriend which she would rather have, a short fast ride or a long slow enjoyable day of dallying. The real magic of an ebike is that if you do it right you can ride anywhere in America that bicycles are allowed (pretty much everywhere) and not Have to play in traffic. If 750/1000W isn't enough then you should be riding a motorcycle. If the food is bad on the east coast you should venture out more, I've been eating excellent food most of my life here and abroad. I also can put on 30, 40 miles never being further than 5 miles from my home and all of it is "interesting". I'd guess too that the news, movies, and texting is very much the same in Europe. It's how you choose to look at life I think. I lived in Germany for 14 years straight and never once thought I was anywhere but home the whole time. Best bread, beer, and wine of my life... but don't try and buy groceries afternoon on a Sunday. Home is where you hang your helmet. Personally... I have never seen a production ebike I would own with their limited power range and proprietary limitations.

You ride safe. I bet it does sucking riding in traffic there.

I think this is an excellent rule TJ, hopefully you can follow it. I stopped counting the number of times you have inserted your political beliefs (but am happy to point them out to you if you have forgotten)

Hopefully, it was only in an off-topic thread, AND I did delete and stop posting in off-topic discussions. You're welcome to call me on any post.

A lot of other forums have a few sticky threads for new members... required reading for EBikes 101! ;)
I would have liked a few sticky thread when I first landed here, but things change fast in ebikes, and someone has to keep them current or they become cluttered. Example Endless Sphere.

Very nicely written post. Thank you for the time and attention !

Since the pandemic it Is a lot calmer riding in traffic now. Many are w/o work or have chosen to stay on UI. Too many issues, many stires clsimg, rest. closed. some are open now.
Many people on bikes actually, and bike shops are out of <2k$ bikes or ebikes.

I make my 10 - 15 minutes per day on EBR more efficient by subscribing to email alerts for threads which interest me. I also scan the "Whats New" tab occasionally for other interesting posts.

What's wrong with below $1500 ebike posts?

For someone who is new to electric bikes, isn't looking into commuting or frequent trail riding, and doesn't want to spend a lot of money... that seems like a big market.

Just wondering.

Nothing. Nothing at all. Personally I just hate seeing people put good money into something that they are going to (or just could) outgrow rapidly. There's nothing wrong with buying a Radrover and riding 20 miles at a time. I see people do it all the time in the areas I ride and they are all smiling. If a production ebike... even a $1500.00 one, is what you want then get one. Riding an ebike will put a smile on your face. Investing in a better quality ebike just lets you smile more. Most $1500.00 ebikes are just $1000.00 worth of parts all purchased and boxed up to sell. Others are the same thing but assembled to one degree or another. If you want to buy an off the shelf ebike it's probably best to find a local dealer or LBS because you will have "issues" with it just like any other bike. You do you man and stop listening to any of our personal opinions... these guys are all crazy anyway. Stay safe.

I read some other post where a few years ago, sub $1k ebikes were not worth it but now you can get a good bike in that $1k-1.5k range.

Is that not true? I really like this forum but seems like many of you are in the $2k+ (or even $5k+) range and I can’t even fathom spending that kind of money on a bike I don’t ride as much. This seems like the same sentiment for non ebikes.

Seems like Ride1Up/Aventon/Sondors are decent ebikes in that value category and if not for EBR I wouldn’t know about them.

At least I’m not considering $700 bikes anymore. :)

Or should I? Seems like there is a large gap between < $700 and > $1000.

Here is what I have observed on EBR... a lot of folks start out looking for an eBike under $1K... understandable compared to the cost of a regular bike.

However, the quality of the bike is sometimes sacrificed to allow for a basic hub motor and the result can be an unsatisfactory riding experience.

Unfortunately, some are then turned off to eBikes entirely, while others go on to purchase yet another eBike above $1K with better results.

There are certainly exceptions to this rule and occasionally a great deal will pop up on CL, BD, or BBB for a high-quality eBike. YMMV ;)

Is building your own ebike better than buying one that is built as an ebike?

I guess I'm a very casual biker compared to everyone here and not mechanically inclined to build one... I'm not even looking forward to assembling a 90% built direct to consumer ebike.

Seems like I have a much different approach than most of the regulars here... I guess because we've been satisfied with those $100-$200 big box store bikes all these years. :)

A few months back, it was doable to relax and read last 2 days posts in 20-25min. and reply for some.
Now, there are 3-4x as many threads and sometimes loooong posts. Not Complaining , b/c i also wrote some looooong posts recently, just rambling.

I'm trying to limit my time on ebr 15-25minutes,2x/week . Is hard b:c we want to know the latest, greatest and so on.

And there is also maybe the most imp. aspect the camaraderie , many great people are praent through their writing here, and lots of POSITIVITY is shared ,which we all need nowadays.

How do you guys feel about the amount of info/threads generated lately and how do you use it ?

.

It's the business model of bikes direct to consumers. YOU are your own tech support and warranty repair surface. The battery will likely be built with substandard components and have no warranty. Many of these companies out of reach of any consumer protection. BUT you COULD take a favorite bike and kit it for $1500 and have an eBike you can maintain and have the support of the kit building community.
