Tire liner shock! Weird!

I've ran Mr. Tuffy tire liners since my bmx days. I know how to measure them and cut them to length, like if you buy one for a 26" you cut it down to 20". I recently had my Lectric Xpedition serviced and it was discovered I had some broken spokes in the rear wheel. The shop swapped out my spare wheel and put everything back together and here's the weird part. I had a blow out last week and decided to fix it today. This was my surprise, my Mr. Tuffy tire liner was cut to around 16" inches! I no longer had a overlap but now a noticeable gap! Someone cut it shorter! Why? That seems so weird to me. So now I put everything back together WITHOUT my added layer of puncture protection. I don't have a spare Mr. Tuffy in the proper size and length laying around. I guess if you want it done right do it yourself......

I might order a spare set of tire liners. NOT from the shop that cut my existing liner but from a online vendor. I'm also using one of my Bakcou "military grade" inner tubes, the super think tubes. I sure would like a added layer protecting my expensive inner tube.

I substituted Mr. Tuffy's for the Tannus Armor I was previously using in all 6 of my 26" bike tires. In every case, there was a 2" overlap, which I'm told is normal. The overlap shrinks when the tire it inflated and prevents gaps. It is likely the person who serviced your bike didn't know this and cut the liner too short.

Unless the liner is cut correctly, sharp edges can slice the tube, making it un patchable.

I did the same with always using Mr. Tuffy+tire sealant since 2016 on my two 4" fat tire and the wife's two 2.3" step-thru. In the beginning, I did get the Mr. Tuffy pinch flat from being too long and learned to trim it down with minimum overlap also. I would still get the occasional extra long goat head caused flat.

Purchased a 4.8" fat tire Himiway Cobra Pro with Tannus liners 2 years ago. Zero issues with flats in the same riding conditions compared to Mr. Tuffy. I've since dumped Mr. Tuffy and added Tannus to my two 2016 Radrovers (one Radrover had a flat tire from a previous ride when I let a family member borrow the ebike). The wife doesn't ride as much as me in off road/single track conditions. Mr. Tuffy is fine for her ebikes for now.

I used Tannus Armor in all my bike tires for 5 seasons with zero issues. My only complaint is, even in the shop, they are very difficult to install on my 2.3" tires and darn near impossible to service on the trail.

I also found that unless I deflate the tires when not in use, the Tannus over time will compress down to a thickness of less than 1/4". Not much better protection than the Mr.' Tuffy's in that condition. Deflating the tires wouldn't be that big a deal if I didn't put sealant in the tubes. Maybe the Tannus are easier to install on larger tires?

I needed to unfold for a few days the Tannus liners because they were hard to install immediately when folded up in the packaging like it was spring loaded. The hardest part I had with Mr. Tuffy was getting the liner centered when installing and keeping it from sliding over to one side (occasionally taking apart to remove broken off goat head stickers stuck in Mr. Tuffy still causing flats with the tube).

Not sure how thick Tannus is for 2.3" tires; but, it the website recommends for best results to use a 26X3 to 26X4 inner tube for my 4.8" fat tire. Thanks for the heads-up! I would probably have the exact same issues in the field with Tannus; but, I've been lucky to have zero flats in +2 years. I might just add a spare tube+tire sealant to my rack bag just to get me home if dealing with Tannus is too hard in the field? Because of old habits, I still add Stans tire sealant in the tubes when I use Tannus or Mr. Tuffy.

I might have to re-think swapping my wife's 2.3" ebikes from Mr. Tuffy+sealant over to Tannus?

It's possible the difficulty I'm having with Tannus is due to the deep rims on my mag wheels. It may not be a problem with a spoked wheel rim.
